EVERYONE IS ASKING THIS- TIME TO CLEAR THE AIR.....

How does a travel agent get paid?

A travel agent is paid commission off of the components of the trip you purchase. The trip is not going to cost you any more than doing it with one of those "on-line sites". Period. I use a company frequently called Gogo Worldwide Vacations. They do the majority of my groups and land packages for me. For instance, I book a trip worth $3000.00 to Aruba. I get 5% commission on whatever the airfare is and 15% commission on whatever the fare is to stay at the resort. There is no out of pocket expense to you, with a couple of exceptions. Those being: something non-commissionable, cancellations, modifications, late payment surcharges, deposits for special requests such as groups and destination weddings, transfers.... anything that requires us to spend time with or may have to go back to spend time with, a fee is added. These are rare occassions... but who works for free? My time is valuable and so is yours; hence why you chose to use a travel consultant to begin with. Now- to take it a step further, we get credits from the companies we use towards our education. The value of using a travel consultant comes in many forms. I always give out my cell number. It's not hard to find it- it's at the bottom of every email I send or at the bottom of every electronic auto-response. Call it at any time- that's what it's there for. I had a client just recently call me at 4 AM telling me she was having a blast partying it up in Cabo San Lucas!!! I'm not asking that you all do that...lol... you get the picture. The personal service is being put back into it. Ever have a problem and had to call a customer service representative at one of those online sites, where you continually tell your story over and over again until finally someone understands what it is you're asking- to find out they still have to connect you to someone else? You call our office, or my cell- or our office in Stoneham and we all know who you are and we are ready to assist you. Have you ever booked through an online site, gotten to a destination to find out you have to shell out more money to get there? This is where a travel agent is worth their weight in gold. I went to St. Lucia a few years back and did tons of research before I left- it's an 85 minute ride from the international airport to the resort areas on the northern side of the island. I had a private transfer waiting for my wife and I which was included in the price of our resort. We met a group of 4 ladies traveling together who booked their trip through, for sake of saving the site's name, "Travelpedia"- which did not tell them about the transfers. A local cabbie got them for $100.00 per person one way! $400.00 for a one way transfer. Talk about a great pay day- and that's in American dollars as well! I spoke with our driver throughout the week and was able to reserve his vehicle to get them back to the airport for $100.00- for all four of them.

So here's what you get: free planning of your trip, free time because the trip planning is being taken care of, free expertise and advice, personal service and someone else pays for it- how else could you go wrong? Use a travel professional for your travel needs today.
