19 Capitol Hill Club Reviews

By far the best venue (and value) in the DC area. They give you the entire building for the night of your wedding (4 floors) at no charge. We had cocktails on the first floor, dinner on the second ... Read more floor, dancing on the third floor, and on the fourth floor we had a kid's room complete with kid's buffet and a room where the vendors could go to eat their meals. The service is amazing (even my photographer commented on how good the service was) and the food is some of the best wedding food we've ever had. Also, it's right next to the Capitol building, so it's neat for your out-of-town guests. I did not hire a wedding planner/coordinator, so I dropped a lot of decorations off the night before intending to come decorate b/w the ceremony and reception, but when I arrived they had already done everything! Seriously, this place is a hidden gem. Check it out - you will not be disappointed.

A Historic and Memorable Event Space
It would be difficult to overstate what the Capitol Hill Club pulled off for our wedding reception (200 people). It was not by accident that our night was perfect (everyone probably says this but it ... Read more really was flawless). Stan, Israel, Chef Marcus and the rest of their team put in an enormous amount of preparation in the months leading up to the event that was just the right balance of their expertise matched with our hopes and dreams for that night. There were many instances where we said something to the effect of "I realize this may not be possible but it sure would be great if [fill in the blank]" and each time they pulled the request off. The Space - virtually every reception I have been to puts every guest, the food, the band, and the dance floor together in single flat location. That is not the case at all with the Capitol Hill Club. Instead you get access to all of the building's floors allowing guests to flow between the dance floor/band on one level, food stations on another, babysitting rooms on another, and even college football games and a dedicated bar down below in case you are from the South and get married in the Fall. It is hard to explain just how well the space works for everyone. Food - this is what was most important to me and Chef Marcus and his team hit a home run with our all stations concept. We asked them to put together a menu inspired by Edna Lewis's most famous southern cookbook (which they bought for their whole culinary team as a reference), a nod to our Texas roots, and a seafood spread because...well you only get to do this once. Over the course of several tasting events we honed in on not just nailing whether the food tasted great but making sure it worked logistically - how would someone hold this, can this stay warm, does this need to be fired on demand. They just could not have been more generous in the amount of time and thought they put into pulling off the food and drink aspect of the event. People are still talking about the raw bar. Everyone thinks their reception was perfect. Ours really was and I can't imagine it being possible anywhere except the Capitol Hill Club.

CHC was wonderful! It is so close to public transportation and was within walking distance of the church we got married at, so we didn't have to worry about transporting the guests at all. They were ... Read more were able to host our 250 person wedding (just about the only place on the Hill that could) and they were surprising reasonable! You just had to meet a minimum for food -- no rental fee. And speaking of food, it was so delicious! The tasting for the reception might have been my favorite part of wedding planning. Dessert was also included in the price of the entree and they were so accommodating with my request to split all the desserts in half and have twice as many types :-). They were also very knowledgeable/sensitive to food allergies (we had several people that needed to eat gluten and dairy free). The staff was so accommodating and they generally let you have the whole place for the whole day -- we were able to start set up at 9AM -- which took the pressure off. You should definitely book the Capitol Hill Club.
