DC Firehouse 4 is a historic wedding and event venue located in Washington, D.C.. Situated in D.C.’s hip Shaw neighborhood, this unique firehouse was built in 1884. It housed the first fully African American fire company in the area, and was renovated in 2017. DC Firehouse 4 combines exposed architectural beauty with historical photography, and modern amenities.
Facilities and Capacity
This location is ideal for groups 50-75 and under but can accommodate up to 100 of your guests. The original firehouse now serves as a penthouse, and boasts 2,000 square feet. You can host your ceremony in the spacious garage. This blank canvas of a space can easily be decorated as you see fit. It boasts exposed brick walls, and a driveway for your grand entrance or exit. For your reception, you can move into the three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse suite. Here you’ll find a large gas fireplace, exposed wooden beams throughout, and an original firepole. Historical photographs are displayed everywhere, allowing your guests plenty to look at before or after dinner.
Services Offered
This unique property offers rooms for you and your wedding party to start your day in. This allows the morning of your wedding to be relaxed and stress-free. There is a kitchen that the caterer of your choice can use, as well as on-site parking for one to two cars. Free WiFi is included, along with both air-conditioning and heating.
Accommodation
This three-bedroom, three-bath penthouse can comfortably sleep up to 10 guests. Each bedroom features a queen bed, while the second bedroom includes a toddler bed, and the third bedroom includes two single beds. There is also a sofa bed and a couch in the common area. You and your loved ones will have access to their TV, washer and dryer, bath essentials, dishwasher, and dishes and silverware. You can also utilize their coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, and stove.

Great Location
Great venue in the heart of the city for an intimate wedding
The size of the garage space was perfect and with the help of their team, they were able to finish off the space to create a truly intimate, urban space. We also utilized the loft space for an afterparty and to have our closest out of town friends stay with us--prolonging the celebration for another night. Our guests (both local and out of town) were awe-struck by the uniqueness of this venue. It was over the top in the way a good family dinner is--exudes warmth but not stuffy, comfortable but engaging, and filled with personal touches that make everyone feel part of the celebration. The venue also allowed us to be creative with our own vision--we used a projector to run a homemade movie of all our friends and family; we had a BYOB dance party; we got to bring in the food we loved vs. just hotel chicken:)
I've lived in DC for 20 years, even worked as sales manager at Hotel Washington where I helped organize almost 50 weddings--if you want a truly unique DC wedding, where you can call more of the shots and give it your own personal DIY touches--you have to check out this space.
