History

Fairfax Hall was originally built as the Brandon Hotel in 1890, in the Queen Anne Style as a premier railroad hotel. In 1913, it was converted to the Brandon Institute, a coeducational art and music school. In 1920, the building became Fairfax Hall, then a finishing school for grades 9-12 attended by young women from across the world. In 1975, Fairfax Hall closed that chapter of its history and was leased as an academy for staff development for the Virginia Department of Corrections. From restorations in 2000-2001, Fairfax Hall turned into 54 apartments and the lovely venue. Now the building hosts grand weddings in the Valley and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
