About

Featherbed Island House is a beautiful, artist-designed home in coastal downeast Maine. It is very private, at the end of a lane, and even has it's own private island just offshore. Please visit our website www.featherbedisland for more information.

The home is 3 bedroom and sleeps up to 6. It has been used many, many times for honeymoons and would also be a perfect spot for wedding guests arriving for a destination wedding.

Featherbed Island House in downeast Maine is perfect for:

--ARTISTS OF ALL TYPES
--NATURE LOVERS
--ROMANTIC GETAWAYS
--WRITERS - it would be a grand space for a writing workshop
--BIRDERS - a true bird-watcher's paradise
--FAMILIES WITH YOUNG EXPLORERS

Our property is certified by the state of Maine DEP as a 'Certified Environmental Leader in Hospitality' and by the National Wildlife Federation as a 'Backyard Wildlife Habitat' - a perfect spot for birders and all nature lovers.

Located privately at the very end of a drive, surrounded by water and acres of forest. You will enjoy the casual elegance of a spacious three-bedroom home tastefully decorated with artsy and whimsical treasures.

THE GROUNDS OF FEATHERBED ISLAND HOUSE: The property is saltwaterfront on an estuary where it greets the ocean, a prime spot to observe the splendor of nature. Depending on season, there is a large, rolling lawn, a freshwater pond, flowers, apple trees and blueberries to pick.
There is a grassy, tidal area for kayak launching with a small floating dock to tie up your kayak (not a swimming raft). Just offshore is your own tiny private island, a frequent stop for eagles and seals. Rumor has it that the pirate, Cap't Black Sam Bellamy buried his treasure somewhere in proximity to this very property! (But please, no digging!).

THE YELLOW HOUSE: The yellow-house is only 80 feet from the water with vast, unobstructed views of the water, island, the rocky shore, marshes and profile of Machiasport beyond. There is plenty of space to spread out....

-- GREAT ROOM with a wall of windows is a comfortable gathering space to hold conversation or just gaze out over the water. The dining area easily accommodates six hungry people.

-- THE LIBRARY holds is an 'old-time' wooden phonograph with a selection of 78's (Dancing anyone? Waltz or perhaps a fox trot?) and an easel for the artist in you. It is full of books and CD's and 'books on CD's' and plenty of board games.

-- COZY DEN has a tv and dvd player and library of DVD movies from kids to adult selections.

THE KITCHEN AND PANTRY: A well equipped kitchen has it’s own walk in pantry complete with a Belgian waffle maker, veggie and citrus juicers, blender, lobster pot (of course!) and many gadgets and gismos if whipping up a gourmet meal is what you crave. The view from the kitchen window overlooks the freshwater pond. If you are lucky, you might see a deer (or a moose) quenching his thirst.

THE THREE BEDROOMS:

THE MASTER BEDROOM - The Moonlight Bedroom - has a queen bed with a cloud-like memory foam mattress topper (for visits after Nov '14), a variety of pillows, crisp sheets and fluffy duvets for a dreamy sleep and views out over the great room to the water. There is a privacy shade for complete privacy to the room below.

THE EAGLE PERCH BEDROOM has a double bed with a cozy duvet and a dormer window overlooking the water.

THE DEER WATCH BEDROOM contains a petite nook with a twin bed, crisp sheets, soft duvet and overlooks the woodlands.

All three bedrooms share a spacious upstairs full bath with tub/shower combination. A second, 3/4 bath with shower and laundry is on the 1st floor.

The house comes with all things designed to make you feel right at home:
There are board games and puzzles for rainy days, balls and bocce for sun. We think we've covered everything from cookbooks and cupcake tins and popsicle molds to lobster bibs to eco-friendly laundry detergent to plenty of vases perfect for gathering flowers around the property.
