About
Firehouse Entertainment was created by Fire Captains Erik Komula, and Josh Hilliard in January of 2007. The two had grown up together in Woodland, California, and shared a common love of music and good times. Through college, Josh and Erik paid their bills working for a large DJ company in the Chico area while studying to become firefighters. They hosted everything from Greek Rush Week to Black-Tie Weddings. Those events instilled the work ethic and professionalism that would someday lead them to start their own company.
As luck would have it, Erik and Josh were both later hired by their hometown fire department. While they weren't working regularly as DJ's-for-hire during the first few years as firefighters, they were still working the occasional wedding for close friends and family using rented or borrowed equipment. After a few years of doing those events, Erik suggested to Josh that they buy a modest set of equipment just to help cut down on costs for their friends. That led to doing more than the "occasional" event for distant relatives and friends of friends. Doing more shows meant purchasing new and better equipment. New and better equipment meant doing more shows. It was a vicious cycle.
In the fall of 2006, Erik and Josh decided to create Firehouse Entertainment. They acquired a business license and officially became the owners of a full-fledged Mobile DJ Company on January 1, 2007. While Josh and Erik have joked that they have "the most expensive hobby on the planet", both of them love being able to provide the quality sound and professional attitude that has become the hallmark of their company.
Now in it's seventh year, Firehouse Entertainment has performed at a wide variety of weddings, parties, corporate events, fundraisers and school functions. Throughout all of those functions, clients have always asked where they could rent items like tables, chairs, dance floors and china. Josh and Erik always sent folks over to the well known B&B Party Rentals in Woodland.
As luck would have it, The owners of B&B Party Rentals, Wayne and Diane, announced their retirement in mid 2013. Erik and Josh began discussing an expansion and ultimately offered to buy all of B&B's inventory. Wayne and Diane agreed that the pairing was a good idea, and a deal was struck. In November of 2013, Firehouse Entertainment moved into 565 Kentucky Avenue in Woodland, and began offering event rentals to all of our clients. Erik and Josh, not interested in reinventing the wheel, kept all of the existing B&B staff and began learning the business. Today, our staff has grown from just two guys and some equipment to a 20 person, well-oiled machine. Our DJs, Emcees, and Rental Specialists have helped thousands of people create unforgettable events all along the way.
