Located in Carmel, California, Folktale Winery & Vineyards is an exquisite wedding venue and destination. Tucked into a valley and only five miles from the Pacific Ocean, this property is readily accessible from the Monterey Peninsul and Monterey Airport. Within an easy drive of the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, this unique estate features 15 acres of sustainably farmed Sangiovese vineyards and gardens. With valley sights, including the Carmel River and the Santa Lucia Mountains, this idyllic locale makes an excellent selection for a couple's wedding backdrop.

Facilities and Capacity

Folktale Winery & Vineyards has several event spaces suitable for nuptial occasions. The Rose Vineyard beside the Barrel Room has a private and grassy field that hosts ceremonies and other events. This can be paired with the Barrel Room for a mixed indoor-outdoor celebration. The Vineyard House is another option for a mixed celebration, where French doors can be opened up to let in beautiful summer weather. The Wine Garden is another verdant outdoor space, while The Vineyard House makes an intimate indoor locale.

Services Offered

This winery venue hosts up to 350 guests for wedding ceremonies and receptions. This setting also accommodates showers, post-wedding brunches, and other gatherings. The staff can provide catering, bar service, rentals, and more.

History

The property now named Folktale Winery & Vineyards was originally established in 1982 as Chateau Julien Wine Estate by Bob and Patti Brower. This duo was inspired by trips to the Bordeaux region of France to bring that quality of wine and hospitality to California. They expanded the winery property in 1996, adding land to the vineyard, a new estate residence, and a 10,000-square-foot barrel hall. In 2015, local winemaker Gregory Ahn acquired this estate and gave it its current name, drawing on the idea that each bottle of great wine has a story.

Barrel Room

Folktale was great. Christian was fabulous and was very helpful. Throughout the pandemic they were very flexible and worked to keep our event perfect. They also worked very well with our wedding planner. The food was very delicious and would highly recommend. We were in the Barrel Room and everything was perfect.

Erika Breitkopf
Erika Breitkopf
Director of Events

Erika’s career began in the dynamic world of Hollywood nightlife and fine dining, where she worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Crustacean Restaurant Group, SBE Nightlife, CHAYA Restaurant Group, and The District. Her work allowed her to rub shoulders with celebrities like Channing Tatum, Magic Johnson, VP Nominee Tim Kaine, Emmitt Smith, and many others.
Interestingly, Erika’s educational background initially focused on psychology, driven by her dream of becoming a criminal profiler for the FBI. However, she found her true passion in the events industry at an early age and shifted her focus entirely to building her career in event planning.
After spending several years in Los Angeles and then four in Maryland, Erika returned to her hometown of Monterey. She brought a Mini Schnauzer named Hanz, and together, they
embarked on a new chapter.
Outside of her career, Erika is a passionate entertainer who enjoys throwing parties for friends. Erika’s interests also extend to fashion and design, and she has a fondness for being
in nature, foraging for local delicacies such as elderberries, ramps, and herbs. Additionally, she dabbles in holistic medicine, adding depth to her diverse interests and talents.

Erika was drawn to Folktale because of its stunning location and commitment to sustainability. She appreciates the owners’ dedication to their employees, the community, and the environment. With Folktale, she found a company that balances its size and personalization for clients, making it an ideal fit for her.
Our venue options leverage the natural beauty of Monterey County and align perfectly with Erika’s event planning expertise. The use of local, fresh ingredients and a diverse
selection of wines cater to a wide range of tastes and budgets, making it a perfect platform for her passion and expertise in the event planning industry.
