History

The Greenwich Historical Society was begun in 1931 as a means to gather and maintain the rich history of Greenwich, Connecticut. Originally housed in the Old Greenwich library, it soon outgrew its space. The Society purchased Bush-Holley House in 1957, and in 1958, they opened their doors to the public as a museum. They built the William E. Finch Jr. Archives and later hired an archivist and their first director in 1987. After several other purchases and restorations, the Visitor Center was opened in 1997, and the Society was accredited by the American Association of Museums in 2005.
