About

On WeddingWire since 2011

Historic Barns of Nipmoose, a rustic chic wedding venue in the upper Hudson River Valley, New York area features three fully restored historic barns and 123 acres of open farmland. A wedding at this venue includes all three of the barns and the surrounding property, including gardens, a pond, an expansive courtyard area and a grove of aspens. Set in an agricultural district, the Nipmoose barns are within easy driving distance of Saratoga Springs, Albany and Troy, NY, as well as Bennington, VT and Williamstown, MA. A long driveway to the barns enhances the privacy of the site.

Facilities and Capacity
The two large barns (the Scottish Barn and German Barn), are ideal locations for wedding receptions. The barns can be used simultaneously, with dinner in one and dancing in the other. The largest of the three barns can accommodate 180 guests for a seated dinner. For a larger event (up to 250 guests) a tent would need to be rented. The smaller Corn Crib can serve as a location for memorabilia, a photo booth, gifts or refreshments. The aspen grove near the Corn Crib is a popular site for holding ceremonies and the great stone wall behind the German Barn is a favorite for romantic photos. Included as well are three charming bathrooms (one of which is handicap accessible), a spacious bridal suite and a Workshop Barn for caterers.

Services Offered
The Historic Barns of Nipmoose provides a list of recommended vendors, but welcomes other vendors as well. Couples may include their pet in their ceremony. Guest parking near the barns can accommodate busses and a large number of cars. Nipmoose staff is onsite for the entire wedding.

History
The Nipmoose Farm, named after the adjacent creek, can be traced back to the late 1700s. The farm, which originally maintained livestock and crops, transitioned to a dairy farm in the early 1900s. Built in the 18th century, the Scottish Barn has a unique timber frame design. The Corn Crib and farmhouse were most likely built in the early 1800s. The Scottish and German barns were moved to the site over a hundred years ago, while the Corn Crib was moved to Nipmoose in 2002, as part of the restoration of the barns. The entire farm is owned by The Persistence Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to land conservation and preservation of agricultural heritage.

Great venue and staff

My husband and I had an absolutely perfect wedding at the Historic Barns of Nipmoose. After setting our date and having 2 prior venues fall though, I thought there was no way a place this nice would be able to accommodate us. We were just out of the window of their wedding season (end of October) but due to our smaller size and their ability to provide some heat in the barns we gave it a shot. Connie was so helpful with helping to coordinate with vendors, chose many props/furniture items to use (at no additional fee) and made me feel confident that we were checking all the boxes for it to be a smooth day. She was also able to provide a lot of pictures from previous weddings to get an idea of what ceremony and table set ups would look like and had a big list of vendors that they were familiar with.

Although we paid for a 5 hour block of time, it was extremely convenient to be able to drop items off the day before and have access to the venue earlier in the day. My wedding party met the photographer there a few hours before the ceremony so we could get all of our pictures done.

The only flaw with the whole experience was no fault of theirs - it rained the whole day! We had to move the ceremony inside to one of the barns. It wasn't what I pictured but Connie and the staff were so helpful as we moved things around inside the barn together to see how things would best fit and what our new setup was going to be. They even had a bunch of clear umbrellas for us to use which was one less thing I needed to purchase! The rain was light and the pictures turned out perfect. The best part was after the ceremony we were rewarded with a beautiful sunset and rainbow!

We highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a rustic barn wedding!

Perfect Wedding

The Historic Barns of Nipmoose is a place which is both majestic and natural. Each aspect of my son's wedding at the Historic Barns of Nipmoose was genuine! Every detail was attended to with great care.
The wedding vows, held in front of a cluster of aspen trees, were perfectly framed and complemented by the carefully built historic barns with their well-built post and beam constructions.
Max & Cristi's wedding was more beautiful than I had imagined it could be. Guests from California, Colorado, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Switzerland were truly impressed with Nipmoose’s unique beauty. The caterer, the band, photographer and the Nipmoose staff all made the event run smoothly. Everyone who attended the wedding says their visit to Nipmoose will always be a cherished memory.

Best Venue EVER!

This venue is wonderful for so many reasons! 10 reasons to be exact. First off, this venue is absolutely breathtaking! There are 3 barns you can use for your reception and/or ceremony, and they are so gorgeous and well taken care of. The barns are surrounded by a huge lawn, so your guests will have plenty of room to roam and you'll have so many options to take wedding photos at. The lawn of the venue is framed 360 by beautiful views, including forests, mountains, a small pond, and a flower garden. So no matter what direction you face your guests and wedding photographer can take in breathtaking views. The foliage at fall is so vibrant, our Autumn wedding photos look GORGEOUS! Second, this venue has a ton of useful stuff that is available for you to use however you please (at no extra cost, yay!), and it's all gorgeous! They have wooden tables, stools, benches, crates, and troughs, metal milk jugs, lanterns in various sizes, huge wooden wheels, cabinets and display cabinets and desks, and a bunch of other stuff! They will offer you the list, they will put out for you whatever you choose to use and keep whatever you don't want stored away and out of sight. Third, they have actual bathrooms, nice ones. A lot of barn-type venues don't have real bathrooms, lots of them have porta-potties or nothing at all, so these bathrooms are a HUGE plus. Fourth, they've got a huge parking lot available for use for cars and buses. They've also got golf carts available for use incase you have any guests that need assistance walking. Fifth, they've got fire pits available for rental, which were a huge hit at our wedding! Sixth, they've got a basement bridal suite, so you and your party can get ready on-site rather than having makeup and hair artists come to your hotel then having to drive to the venue all done up. It takes a huge amount of stress out of the day getting ready on-site. So convenient! Plus, because you’ll be on-site getting ready your wedding photographer and videographer can take getting ready pictures of you and your party, which we were so happy to have. Seventh, they have an extra barn connected to the parking lot that is available for use for your vendors. The barn has 2 sections, a garage entrance and an attached prep room. So your vendors can pull their cars/truck right into the building and unload all of their supplies directly into the barn. You can have your caterer prep food in there, or anything else you may need. Your vendors will thank you for the convenience! Eighth, you can have both your ceremony and your reception here, which you can't always do at every venue. It is so much more convenient and less stressful to just be able to transition into your reception immediately. Your guests and vendors will thank you! Ninth, the owner Connie is SO nice, and will work with your vendors and you to make sure everything and everyone is all set before your big day. She actually also has a list available of vendors she’s had at her venue before that she’s had good experiences with for you to take home with you, which makes getting a good start on finding vendors in the area so much easier! She and her staff are so friendly and sweet! It made the entire experience working with them even more pleasurable. Lastly, for all of the LGBTQ+ couples out there. This is a LGBTQ+ friendly venue! Connie and her staff were so welcoming to my Wife and I! You need to book this venue, you won't regret it!! Cannot recommend this venue enough!

This region is filled with barn wedding venues these days, but the Historic Barns of Nipmoose are really something special. The setting is private and stunning. With three separate barns on the property, couples have a lot of flexibility in how they use them on their special day. As a bonus, couples who get married at Nipmoose have the opportunity to use a large variety of antique and vintage furnishings which are of great value to an event design. As a professional wedding planner, I look for more than just a beautiful space. I appreciate venues that go above and beyond to take great care of their clients. Barbara, Connie and their staff work very hard to make sure each and every wedding exceeds the expectations of the couple. They are an absolute pleasure to work with and I cannot recommend them enough!
