Shurisa with The Gentle House has been great to work with. The venue has so many possibilities because it has more than one yard. We will have our ceremony in one yard, lawn games in another and the ... Read more ceremony in yet another one. They have Master Gardner's who come in before the wedding and make sure the grounds look great; they offer a tour of the historic portions of the house (this house was donated to Western Oregon University by one of the original professors); they have staff that can help set up and take down and serve, if you would like. They have some rentals available, too, ie: tables, chairs, linens, place settings, etc. We will be able to have our rehearsal here as well. I highly recommend this venue!

When we first toured/booked this venue in February earlier this year, we were very excited as the house is quite charming and the grounds are lovely. Per our contract we were promised several things ... Read more that were not delivered on. Our planning visit was booked over with a bridal shower, we were asked to reschedule - and then rushed off the grounds. I was notified about a week prior to our wedding our planning information was lost. We were assured the conference room (where we held our reception) could easily fit 56 people, we had less than 50 total. We came the night before to set up to find less than chairs in the reception dinner area - and were told that was all they had. I had to demand additional chairs be located so that my guests would have a seat to eat their meal the next day. We were also told the venue had two functioning refrigerators - this was not the case. Upon arrival we were told one of them wasn't working. Leaving us with having to put as much of the ice we'd provided (because the "in house bar" they advertise is not quite accurate) into one single, 30 year old freezer. We were told the bridal room would be secured and private - this was not accurate. We held our ceremony in the gazebo on the grounds, the venue was aware this was the case. We discovered the night before our wedding the gazebo was overrun with bees, a hornets nest located in the corner. I actually had bees landing on me while exchanging our vows. The list of issues we encountered throughout this process is long and so disappointing. We were very fortunate in that we had friends and family available to assist in fixing problems as they arose, so our guests were not aware of the endless stream of issues. Unaware that is, until they were forced to bus their own tables after dinner because staff hid. In a nut shell, don't book here unless you have time to babysit. You will be disrespected and disappointed.
