About

Acclaimed for her beautiful and rare timbre, Polish Coloratura Soprano Marika Szczepek is a young singer establishing an auspicious career.

Marika Szczepek is a professional soloist. She has experience singing as a soloist at weddings, funerals, christenings, first holy communions, bar and bat mitzvahs, in operas, and benefit concerts. Marika can perform acapella, or with piano, organ, or orchestral accompaniment.

Ms. Szczepek was singing since the earliest of her days, always volunteering to sing at school, church, and community events. As a child, Marika excelled in all her music, art, and theater classes. Her teachers remember her as a very meticulous individual.

Marika significantly remembers the moment when she was 13 years old and heard Mozart's famous Queen of the Night aria "Der Hölle Rache" for the first time. She felt a deep desire and passion for this art and at that moment she wanted to pursue a career in Opera. Consequently, she began Voice and Piano lessons, and being the ambitious individual that she was, the first aria she demanded to study at only 13 years old was Mozart's "Der Hölle Rache". As a child, she was a finalist in The USA World Showcase and performed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Since then, Marika has had the opportunity to sing for great singers such as Dolora Zajick, and take lessons with Marylin Horne, William Stone, and Catherine Malfitano. An event particularly inspiring for her was when Dolora Zajick asked Marika to promise her that she would never give up singing, no matter what. In 2011, she was accepted into the Manhattan School of Music in New York for her Undergraduates Degree. Now she is back in Philadelphia studying with William Stone and Lauren Eberwein.

Marika was recently heard in multiple recitals and scenes at the Manhattan School of Music. Under the direction of Catherine Malfitano, she performed excerpts as "Servilia" from Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, "Juliette" from Romeo et Juliette by Charles Gounod, and "Nina" from Chérubin by Jules Massenet.

Ms. Szczepek has sung in William Walton's Henry the Fifth with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Alan Gilbert at the Lincoln Center, as well as in New York City Opera's production of Moses in Egypt at City Center. She has performed in the International Opera Theatre's production of Brundibar.
Ms. Szczepek was a soloist in Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms at the Kimmel Center with the Philadelphia All City Choir and Orchestra.
