Short Version:
I am fun, attentive, artistic and love people! My style is clean, colorful and timeless. In my free time I love adventures and hanging out with my increcible wife, Cindy.
Long Version:
When I was young and my parents dared to take me to the store I would always go through the office supplies and arts section to hang out. I loved to see all the instruments for creating art, crayons, colored pencils, water color paints and fresh new drawing paper and dream of a new artistic creation. I was always drawing something. My grandmother noticed this love for art and paid for oil painting lessons when I was still in elementary school. This early exposure to training in composition and color still impacts me today.
Photography came later in life and pretty much coincides with the digital era. Photography combines my love for art and “techiness” with my affinity for people. After shooting my first wedding in 2005 I found myself hooked to the organized chaos and unbridled happiness and haven’t looked back since.
Starting my own company in 2009 has been a huge blessing and I am thankful for the many wonderful people I get to serve and the amazing team that serves alongside me. Below you can view some of my favorite personal photos as well as some of my top wedding, portrait and commercial photography. Photos range from my trip to Haiti just after the earthquake, to ice boats, to fireworks, Lake Geneva landscapes and one of my favorites of my nephew Owen on a trip to Devil’s Lake.
Outside of my “job” of shooting weddings, portraits and commercial work you can find me on the golf course, mountain biking, playing basketball or racquetball, scrambling up the boulder fields in Baraboo, WI, and being active with my beautiful wife Cindy.
Cindy and I were married on October 8, 2017. Our love story, I like to think, is a little unique. We met after my late wife passed away and realized we were soul mates almost immediately. She understood my grief in a special way. Then our love caught fire and we were engaged and married in seven months!
We met on Pi day (3.14) Pi is known as the infinite number and it was fun that we picked the 8th of the month to get married. Eight looks like the infinity symbol so we have some fun symbolism surrounding our relationship. Cindy and I enjoy being active, hiking, running, exploring, snuggling and spending time with our friends and family. We sometimes pull over to the side of the road and slow dance to our favorite song or walk all the way around the Lake Geneva lakefront path or travel to Spain or just watch comedies on Netflix. I am hugely blessed to have this wonderful woman by my side and part of this business.
Growing up, my dad always had a camera out. I remember looking through the many photo albums we had of family vacations. I loved seeing the end result and treasured them. I thought cameras were so cool and I started really learning about photography and shooting film as early as junior high and I have been hooked ever sense.
Photography also dovetails nicely into some of my favorite hobbies and activities. I love surfing, skiing, backpacking, travel, and many other adventures with my family. I love capturing memories in photographs and doing it in an artistic and beautiful way.
My wonderful wife Rachel and I met at church and we got married in 2014. Now we have three beautiful little girls Sage, Greta, Heidi, & Betty. I am so blessed to have them in my life and I love them so much!
I began shooting for Matt Mason Photography several years ago and it's been such an awesome and challenging experience. Capturing beautiful storytelling imagery for brides and grooms has become a growing passion.
