About

Christopher Tyree is one of the country's leading documentary photographers. And, he is also one of the most sought after. He blends art and story telling, creating breathtaking images of the most poignant moments.

Its a big day. You probably won't get any sleep the night before. Your stomach will be a bit on the queasy side and your mind will be racing over all those last details. You might incur a tiny bit of stress. With Chris, you won't have to stress about the pictures. Literally, he starts when you do and shoots right on through the reception. He's documenting the end of one era in your life and the beginning of the next. He doesn't take it lightly and doesn't want to miss a thing. (He keeps a spare set of clothes in the car, you know, for emergencies). He is a true photojournalist whose style has been honed over nearly two decades of documentary work that has taken him all over the world for a variety of publications. He shoots weddings because he loves the emotion that the day brings and because it helps fund documentary projects of social importance. You can see more his documentary work at www.weyonow.com and www.weyoblog.com.

He wants you to have complete access to view and share your images, so all couples receive a private online viewing gallery, an online slide show and the high-resolution digital negatives. Beautiful, custom-designed albums are also available upon request.

Quotes

"We'll adore Chris' photos of us forever. But we'll also treasure the images he captured of our guests having joyful, sweet or raucous moments of their own -- stuff we missed while we we off being bride and groom."

"Here's the great thing about Chris's photos: They make you look as good as you feel on your wedding day."

"If you don't hire Chris Tyree, you might as well have your grandmother take the pictures."

"When Chris Tyree is your wedding photographer, the food tastes great, the flowers are radiant, the band rocks, everyone dances, the bride is hot, the groom's suit looks great, no one gets embarrassingly drunk and the weather is perfect. He can't guarantee this -- but we will!"

"Chris takes pictures but makes art."
Kate Wiltrout Applegate

For us, our marriage was more a story of family, happiness and love than a single moment in time. So when we began our planning, we placed at the top of our priority finding a photographer who could tell this story through pictures. As a photojournalist, this is what Chris does for a living - and we were fortunate to have him tell ours. He started the day before the actual ceremony, chronicling the activities of our family and friends who had come in from out of town - from the barn where Kristen was giving pony rides to the small beach where some of the "ring bearers" were jumping the waves. Chris followed us through the outdoor wedding rehearsal, the early morning beauty shop run, the ceremony, the reception, and back to the bed and breakfast where we unwound after our guests left. He became such a fixture, so natural, that no one paid him much attention, and so he was able to capture incredibly intimate and genuine moments not just between bride and groom but between guests, family members and friends. When we saw the first slideshow several weeks later, it rekindled the happiness, laughter and tears in ways we never had imagined. That day, we realized that we didn't have a single formal wedding picture; not one of the images he shot was posed - and ultimately we became so grateful for that. Now, as we look at the pictures on our walls or revisit our scrapbook, we know that all the emotions we're seeing were authentic. Chris's pictures captured not just how we looked that day but how we felt. He told our story, and he told it beautifully.

"As a kid growing up in the Tidewater area of Virginia, looking at Chris' work in The Virginian-Pilot was a large part of my inspiration to become a photojournalist. His photographs consistently touch on very poignant moments and emotions that don't ask the viewer to empathize, but take it a step further and make them feel." January 19, 2009
Matt Eich , Freelance , The Virginian-Pilot

"Chris is a visionary, a gifted photographer and a highly professional, can-be-counted-on type of of guy. He is generous with his time and patient with both his subjects and working partners. He is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. I worked with him both directly and indirectly for a year and a half at the Virginian-Pilot. In fact, my first project upon joining the Pilot -- Waging Peace: The Navy leads a joint military effort to confront extremism in the Horn of Africa -- is still, to this day, my favorite. I wish we could work together again!" January 12, 2009
Miranda Mulligan , Multimedia designer/artist , PilotOnline.com / The Virginian-Pilot

"Chris is an amazing photographer and a great all-around guy to work with. He is very orginized and always provides the highest quality work possible!" January 12, 2009
Ryan Healy , Features Designer , PilotOnline.com / The Virginian-Pilot

"Chris Tyree is one of the most talented photographers I've ever had the privilege of working with in my 30 years in this business and I've worked with the best. His commitment to excellence is unwavering from the planning stage of a project to the end of the press run. And he's the sweetest, most considerate guy. Don't pass up the chance to work with him; he'll amaze you." January 12, 2009
Sam Hundley , Projects Designer & illustrator , The Virginian-Pilot

"Chris is a true professional with an eye for what works. He understands people, both from in front of and behind the camera lens." January 9, 2009
Richard Quinn , Staff Writer , The Virginian-Pilot

"Chris was always at the top of our graduate class at Ohio University. Always helpful, humble and a delight to be around - I just can't imagine anyone not wanting to work with Chris. Oh, and he's a ridiculously talented photographer as well!" March 12, 2009
Morris Weintraub , Student , Ohio University

Aside from actually getting married and sharing the day with our family and friends, Chris was the best part of our wedding. His ability to tell our story through his pictures was truly amazing. Becuase of his photojournalistic approach, none of our pictures are posed and so I am able to look at the images now and know that the emotions captured are all genuine. The pictures show not just how we looked that day but how we felt, and so when I look back at my scrapbook several years later, I can relive our story and remember moments otherwise forgotten.
