PRO Artist Melissa Johnson-Robinson who is affectionately called "MJ" hence the name "MJ Essence ", first foray into the world of makeup artistry began in the year 2005 when she competed for the Miss Turks and Caicos pageant. Being a beauty queen was what she was after, but instead of falling in love with the crown, Melissa instantly became intrigued with makeup.

Although she did not seek this profession immediately after, her next experience would be competing in the first TCI Top Model competition, there is when she realized her purpose in the industry. Having had the opportunity to grace the pages of local magazines of the Turks & Caicos Islands and walked runway shows for international as well as local designers, MJ then took advantage of this and headed towards the road of becoming a Professional Makeup Artist. A true believer in making dreams become reality this established professional Makeup Artist has worked for prestige fashion shows throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands and her work can be found throughout the Islands from local magazines to billboards.

MJ relocated to the Fashion Capital that is New York City, settling in Westchester, NY in 2017. Within a year of living there MJ was granted the opportunity to work with well known International Designers for New York Fashion Week!

With her years of experience and in-depth knowledge of her craft, MJ believes that every woman has her own unique natural beauty, therefore it should be embraced and celebrated.
