The group, Russian River Ramblers was formed in 1992. Searching for its own style the band focused on the African-American New Orleans bands heard in the neighborhood dancehalls of the early Jazz years.
Over time the group collected tunes composed by New Orleans musicians performing in the 1920's such as Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Morton, Bunk Johnson, Lil Hardin, Louis Armstrong, Clarence Williams, to name a few. However, it was not the group's intention to copy these early bands but, to keep the music alive through their own interpretation.
Today, the Russian River Ramblers is one of only a handful of bands left worldwide playing early New Orleans Jazz tunes.
