About

On WeddingWire since 2010

Salisbury House & Gardens is a wedding venue and museum situated in Des Moines, Iowa. The original owner, Carl Weeks, founded liquid foundation and hypoallergenic makeup, so it is fitting that his 42-room mansion has received a magnificent makeover as a wedding venue and event center. The mansion was built in the 1920s and was inspired by The King's House in Salisbury, England, blending Tudor, Carolean, and Gothic architectural details. Today, to-be-weds can celebrate their romantic nuptials in style at this sophisticated estate.

Facilities and Capacity

From intimate elopements for 20 loved ones to large-scale receptions for 350 guests, Salisbury House & Gardens is suitable for events of all styles and sizes. Your guests will be treated to visual delights at this special destination, from the landscaped gardens to the manor house's enchanting interior. Antique furnishings from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, wooden flooring, and unique artworks and tapestries sourced by the original owners set the tone for refined occasions. You can say "I do" in the historic Common Room or outdoors, where tall trees envelope a traditional arbor and private manicured garden. White garden chairs, cocktail tables, bistro tables, and an assortment vendor tables are provided by the dedicated staff. Couples can curate their dream reception indoors, outside, or in an elegant marquee. A private dining room inside is lined with vintage portraits and wooden wall paneling that is ideal for micro weddings or rehearsal dinners. A classic cobblestone courtyard is ideal for alfresco dining, where couples can blend rustic and refined accents to match their theme. Many areas offer the option of additional bistro lighting to give the evening a warm, romantic glow. There is ample parking on-site and the indoor event spaces are air-conditioned and heated according to the season.

Services Offered

The expert team at Salisbury House wishes to make your romantic wedding journey seamless and unforgettable. You can schedule a tour and connect with a member of the event team to learn more about their wedding services. You can select an approved catering company from their trusted list of suppliers. In-house staff oversees events and will assist timeline and coordination with your vendors day-of. In 2005, the Salisbury House Foundation began a restoration project to preserve the history of the house and the majesty of its grounds. The dedicated team looks forward to welcoming you to this historic site, where you and your love can create your own history together.

Amazing Venue

I might be bias, but Salisbury House & Gardens is one of the pretties venues in the Des Moines area. Because of this, my husband and I didn't have to go overboard with decorations, the space took care of providing an amazing experience all on its own. Depending on your headcount there are a variety of spaces you use utilize onsite, allowing you and your fiancé to layout your event exactly as you envision. We also loved this venue because of its proximity to downtown. We had our ceremony and our hotel blocks downtown then had shuttles bus out to the venue which is only about 10 minutes. To top it off, the staff at Salisbury were very responsive and extremely helpful throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone getting married in the Des Moines area!

Beautiful place to marry my best friend

We had a fantastic wedding at Salisbury House & Gardens! The staff were beyond helpful and were easy to communicate with during the months leading up to our day. The pictures turned out stunning, and with such a gorgeous location, it didn't take much to decorate. The location, the art, the history! Five stars!

We had a wonderful day at the Salisbury House. Although a tad warm, for the middle of September (95 degrees). Our outdoor ceremony was beautiful. Bonnie was wonderful to work with as well as the rest of the staff. The grounds are worth every penny for beautiful pictures / video!
