About

Located in Savannah, Georgia, Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum provides unforgettable event spaces for weddings. The historic property is home to covered, open-air ceremony options, framed by lush greenery, and well-kept seasonal landscaping. With elegant spaces surrounded by two acres of privately owned gardens, couples will have beautiful backdrops for the milestone they’ve always dreamed of.

Facilities and Capacity

When couples host their wedding at this facility, they will have access to the entire garden and museum. Ceremonies can be held in one of two covered, open-air sites. The intimate Scarbrough Garden is full of seasonal blooms and makes for glorious ceremonies in a naturalistic setting. Within the garden area, a tranquil terrace is bordered by a green lattice pavilion. This site makes for ideal ceremonies for those who don’t wish to walk through the gardens but simply gaze upon its beauty from a distance. For larger ceremonies amongst a sublime citrus grove, the Assembly Room is located in the North Garden and can accommodate up to 300 seated guests. The North Garden itself encompasses five separate gardens that feature botanical wonders such as maple groves, a vine-covered pergola, and a belvedere. Together, these entire gardens can host extraordinary events of up to 1,000 people. All of these event spaces can come equipped with state-of-the-art stage lighting as well as a quality sound system. What’s more, couples and their wedding entourages are welcome to use the Green Room as a private suite equipped with furniture, a bathroom, and a shower. Here, you can comfortably behind your preparations ahead of the festivities.

Services Offered

Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum can provide couples with a preferred list of vendors to help their planning process run as smoothly as possible. The friendly staff can help you get in touch with a variety of vendors from caterers to florists, as well as entertainers. Furthermore, an attached support facility can house your catering requirements if you desire. Alternatively, you may also work with outside vendors to help transform your event space into the setting that effortlessly portrays your personalities. The museum and event center also provides a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to quench guest’s thirst. Drinks are served by professional bartenders and include various specialty beers, fine wines, champagne, cocktails, and more.

History

The main house on this site is the Scarbrough House. This historic building acts as a museum for a collection of ship models, paintings, and other maritime antiques. Built in 1819, it was originally constructed for one of the owners of the Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. After acting as a residence, it became a public school until it was abandoned for a brief time. The building was restored by the Historic Savannah Foundation in the 1970s, then restored again in 1996 by the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Today this magnificent structure is home to an array of stories and constantly making new memories for those situated in the surrounding areas.

Anniversary Party- Incredible Space!

We had our anniversary party at Ships of the Sea and it was INCREDIBLE. Not only was Sloan one of the sweetest and most professional people I’ve ever worked with, but all of the staff were wonderful and funny and engaging. They made all of our guests feel welcomed and taken care of.
We had around 45 people and the museum still brought the same energy and attention that I feel would have been given to a party of 300. They didn’t make me feel less important or less taken care of at all. The bartenders are also incredibly trained/skilled so they were making our guests some really fun cocktails and catered to our requests like mint juleps and lavender gin and tonic! I left lavender at home and they quickly figured it out on their end to still satisfy our requests.
Overall, I highly recommend you have your event here whether it’s a birthday party, anniversary, wedding or even corporate party. You definitely won’t regret it! (Included some nighttime shots so you can see how well lit it is even after dark!)

Such a lovely place for a wedding!

We fell in love with the Ships of the Sea gardens and knew we had to have our wedding ceremony here. They were extremely easy to work with and coordinate with. We love that the gardens are open to the public during the day and everyone can enjoy the beautiful blooms. We had our friends and family join us here on April 23rd, 2022. It was wonderful!

A Hidden Gem

Beautiful gardens, affordable venue, close to everything, tucked away and intimate- this is a PERFECT place for a wedding! We booked the Gardens here for our outside ceremony only; however, there is a large covered area also in the gardens in case of bad weather. The gardens are absolutely stunning at any time of year (we visited the location in the fall prior to our spring wedding). The staff were super easy to talk to and easy to get ahold of. Did I also mention free parking for your guests? It seriously is a hidden gem in Savannah.

Beautiful Venue, Great people and one of the hidden gems in Savannah if you ask me!

Cape Creations Catering Cape Creations Catering Wedding Caterers

Ships of the Sea is truly one of our favourite venues. They offer such different outdoor spaces within one facility. The Scarborough Garden is so quaint and lovely, the Pergola area perfect for butler passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, and then the Atrium is beautifully different for your dinner. All the event staff at Ships are just wonderful to work with.
