About Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum

Located in downtown Savannah, Georgia, the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum is an unforgettable wedding venue. The historic space is home to covered, open-air ceremony options, framed by lush greenery and well-kept seasonal landscaping. With elegant spaces surrounded by two acres of privately owned gardens, couples will have beautiful backdrops for their ceremony and reception, or their bridal shower, engagement party, or rehearsal dinner.

Facilities and Capacity
When couples host their wedding at this facility, they will have access to the entire two acre garden, museum entry, security, private parking, and wheelchair access. Wedding ceremonies can be held in one of two covered, open-air places. The intimate Scarbrough Garden is full of seasonal plantings and blooms, and the ceremony can be held on a large brick terrace bordered by a green lattice pavilion. Surrounded by a citrus grove and natural gardens, the Assembly Room located in the North Garden is ideal for a larger wedding, capable of seating up to 340 people. Limited stage lighting and a sound system are also equipped. The North Garden itself encompasses five different gardens, and features a maple grove, a vine-covered pergola, and a belvedere, and is spacious enough to accommodate up to 1,000 people at a time. To get wedding-ready, bridal parties are welcome to use the Green Room, a bridal suite with a private bathroom and shower.

Services Offered
While Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum can provide couples with a preferred list of vendors, they allow other outside vendors on the premises. While there is no in-house catering, an attached support facility houses a catering room, and features stainless steel prep tables, a sink, and a refrigerator. The venue holds a liquor license, and supplies an open bar with bartenders for weddings. Alcoholic libations such as house and specialty beer, wine, and liquor can be selected, in addition to a champagne toast and signature drink.

History
The main house on site is the Scarbrough House, which acts as a museum for a collection of ship models, paintings, and other maritime antiques. Built in 1819, it was constructed for one of the owners of the Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. After acting as a residence, it became a public school until it was abandoned for a brief time. The building was restored by the Historic Savannah Foundation in the 1970s, then restored again in 1996 by the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.

This venue is THE BEST!

The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum was recommended to us by a local, and thank goodness it was, as it was truly meant to be the venue to host our special day. Regan and her team took excellent care ... Read more of us for 2+ years. (yes, the only downfall was the long wait, but I can assure you time flies by and if you're willing to wait you will not regret it). The entire venue is breathtaking and in prime location for Savannah visitors. From the house to the gardens, it made for several magical backdrops! It provided everything under one roof (ceremony site, cocktail hour, and reception). Every single email was answered in a timely and professional manner. Every question was answered. (Trust me, I am the person that asks 1,000+ questions). Every concern was met with reassurance, options, and accommodations. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue to anyone and everyone!
