Stu Janis, a hammered dulcimer player based in Hudson, Wisconsin, performs distinctive music for weddings and events as a solo musician or as part of the Greenwood Tree duo. Stu’s specialty is music of the British Isles, but he is happy to include classical favorites or learn new pieces. Stu can also incorporate other unusual instruments. When performing solo, Stu's hammered dulcimer's clear bell-like tones are soothing and relaxing. With Greenwood Tree, Bill Cagley’s guitar complements the dulcimer with a rich resonance that's perfect for weddings. This magical music provides an elegant ambience for an unforgettable wedding celebration.

Experience

Stu began playing hammered dulcimer in 1983 and has helped couples marry since 1985. He performs solo and as part of the Greenwood Tree duo, Eisner’s Klezmorim, and Neptune’s Keep. He also has accompanied many area choirs on innovative arrangements for choir and hammered dulcimer by Malcolm Dalglish or Diane Laura Rains. Stu’s repertoire of unusual and memorable instruments includes:

  • Hammered dulcimer
  • Anglo concertina
  • Handpan
  • Bowed psaltery

Bill and Stu were incredibly helpful and professional throughout my wedding planning phase and the actual ceremony. They even prepared a new song at my request, which they performed during the ceremony! Stu was very communicative in the months leading up to the ceremony, and he offered his professional suggestions when it came to the musical arrangement. Their sound is very beautiful and unique, which adds a memorable layer to any ceremony. Overall it was wonderful working with Greenwood Tree.
