About

Our calendar for 2019 is filling rapidly. If you are thinking of booking a wedding at The Estate on Coffee Creek, please contact us soon!

The Estate on Coffee Creek is located in the heart of the Grand River Valley wine region of Northeastern Ohio. The Estate was constructed in 1840 by two gentlemen returning from the California Gold Rush. The house took almost ten years to construct using hand carved beams, railroad tracks, and tons of stone from the creek bed from which the house took its name. Over the years the Estate has been home to prospectors, gentlemen farmers, steam engine builders, a safe haven for the Underground Railroad, an antique auctioneer, and was the host location for the Betty Davis movie "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home". Today, executive chef and owner Nicholas Kustala combines old world charm with new world elegance to fulfill your vision for your wedding day.

Our wedding was amazing! We loved every minute of it!

Our wedding was this past weekend at the Estate. We have been working with Nick since April of 2019 to plan our event. Nick was so helpful and just amazing through everything. Covid hit in March and we decided to make several changes to our event and once again Nick worked with us every step of the way. We cut our wedding from over 250 invites to around 150. Our number ended up being about 90, which included our wedding party. We had everything at the venue from rehearsal to reception. Nick and his staff were amazing through the entire process. We visited the estate many times throughout the process and never had any issues, Nick told me the last time we were there before the wedding everything would be cleaned up and it was exactly that. The few things I pointed out were immediately taken care of. Our rehearsal went off without a hitch, our rehearsal dinner was delicious. My entire wedding party said everything was wonderful. The staff was very delightful and right on top of everything. The same continued the day of the wedding. I had to ask for the cake to be cut and the fire to be started, but I didn't think that was a big deal at all. Everyone raved about their meals and how beautiful the Estate was as we visited each table. After dinner we moved back to the barn and the night was amazing. Drinks were being poured and our guests were dancing the night away right beside us. We are excited to plan our first anniversary celebration with Nick. I would highly recommend the Estate on Coffee Creek.

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Wow. I don’t even know where to begin, so I guess I will start at the very beginning...Be prepared for a long, honest, and positive review...

We started working with Nick Kustala, the owner, all the way back in December 2017 and finally got married on October 5, 2019. He was perfectly fine with booking our date almost two years in advance. We had to give half of the rental as a down payment to hold the date and then the other half a little later.

Nick was extremely flexible with our needs. If you happen to have a unique situation, just sit down and talk to him and he will work something out with you. We told him we really did not want to have a fully open bar because it is pricey, but that we would like to have some of the alcohol paid for. He worked out pricing for us on a wine-only package that we paid per-person and then the remainder of the alcohol was a cash bar.

About a year or so into our venture with Nick, he got a couple terribly negative reviews. We already made our deposit, so we knew we would not be backing out of the deal. However, he was willing to set-up some time to sit down and talk to us about what caused those negative reviews. We had an honest conversation with him and he explained what happened. He admitted him and his staff were not flawless in those two situations, but we were able to see his side. We asked him what his plans were to make sure what happened did not happen again. Among other things, he hired a manager to be in-charge of the weddings. He told us that he went to an old business partner and asked for his help. Nick is a chef, and a pretty good one, but he admitted management was not necessarily his forte. This business partner of his joined the team this year and we think that’s what made the big difference and made our wedding go flawlessly.

Something that should be noted about Nick and his crew is that they’ve been doing weddings for several years now and they have a process in place that works. During the week leading up to the wedding, he has specific days when certain lawn maintenance and other cleaning takes place. He told us that everything would be ready by the time guests arrived on the 5th, and it was. Please keep this in mind if you go to the venue and it does not look exactly how you want it to look on some day before the ceremony. He will likely explain this to you every time you see him before the wedding. Our advice is to trust the process...everything will be done in time.

The wedding day went awesome! Really the biggest issue at the start of the day was that the table numbers were on the wrong tables, but we got that sorted out pretty quickly. When we got there, a member of his staff was using spray paint to make the parking spaces in the lot. Nick and his staff left us alone for the most part, as they were putting some finishing touches on some cleaning. We were able to get ready without any last-minute questions or concerns from his or his staff, which was great!

Nick stood at the back of the aisle and directed the procession for the ceremony. Everyone made it down the aisle, so I’d say he did a good job at that. After the ceremony, Nick and his staff got the cocktail hour food set out and they opened up the bar. During that time, we got some pictures taken with our photo and video crew. When we walked into the banquet hall, we had some speeches and right after those his manager and one other server immediately served us our food. It was already plated. They were both extremely kind to us and told us if we needed anything at all to just call them over and they’d help us out. Once we were served, his staff swiftly went around and took the family-style meal to the guest tables. They weren’t dressed in fancy tuxedos or other upper class like some of those other places, but they were definitely some of the nicest people we’ve ever met. We got a lot of compliments from our guests on how sociable and friendly the staff was. It sounds like they didn’t just serve the food and walk away. Some of our guests said they had a chance to actually have a conversation with some staff members, which may not happen in other places.

After dinner, we did our first dance, parents’ dances, cake cutting, then regular dancing. A little bit into the regular dancing, my brother (Best Man) came up to me and told me nobody cut the rest of the cake yet. It was long enough that it probably should have been cut. I had him go talk to the manager, who was floating around throughout the evening, and within 5 minutes the cake was cut! It was a busy day with a lot going on, so I was not mad about that.

When the party started to die down, we had a chance to talk to a lot of the staff. Everyone was amazing. They even all crammed into the photobooth with us to get a group picture! I don’t think you’d necessarily get that at other places either.

Once the reception was over, they let us leave everything how it was. One of our parents went to pick up the decor, but it sounds like they put all of the decorations on some tables in the back of the banquet hall for them to pick up during the week.

In conclusion, the entire experience from start to finish was absolutely incredible. We could not have asked for a better staff to share our special day with. As you can see, things went wrong, but they were very small. Anywhere you go, there will be something that will go wrong. We highly recommend using this venue for your wedding. You will not regret it!
