The Felt Estate is a historic wedding venue nestled in the dunes along Lake Michigan, between Holland and Saugatuck, Michigan. The expansive estate features the majestic 1920s Felt Mansion, the Rustic Carriage house, and the quaint Chapel at Shore Acres. All around this beautiful architecture are carefully manicured grounds, a grotto, and lush gardens. The Felt Mansion boasts modern amenities, seasonal tents, and optional overnight accommodations. Here, couples will be able to make use of a convenient and comfortable environment as they host their wedding festivities.
Facilities and Capacity
The Felt Estate features multiple unique ceremony and reception location options. For ceremonies, the Chapel at Shore Acres, the Water Garden, and the Felt Mansion are all great options. The Chapel at Shore Acres allows couples to embrace tradition. It was built at the turn of the century and provides a beautiful backdrop for any ceremony. A little romance can be added with the ringing of the chapel bell as you kiss. There is seating for 75 inside or up to 250 outside. The Water Garden is surrounded by trees in the back and has water in every direction. This area seats up to 250 outside. The Felt Mansion exudes a majestic ambiance with sandstone pillars and gorgeous greenery. Here, there is seating for up to 250 outside. The Felt Mansion and West Lawn Tent are also great spots for receptions, as is the Carriage House for rehearsal dinners and welcome parties.
Service Offered
The Felt Estate offers a variety of services including wedding party suites, parking, custom floorplans, audio equipment, and the ability to hire outside vendors. Tables and chairs are also available to clients.
Accommodations
Couples and their guests will be able to dance the night away before retiring to your bed in the historic Felt Mansion. The mansion sleeps up to twelve guests in six bedrooms. The carriage house sleeps up to twelve guests in two bunk rooms. Amenities include toiletries, linens, public WiFi, media players in the foyer, and the use of the kitchen.
History
This stunning mansion was established in 1928 as a gift to Dorr Felt's wife, Agnes. With this love story inspiring the entire house, couples will be able to feel the romance that emanates from every corner.

Joy-filled experience of a lifetime!!
Our daughter and her husband had their first date at the Felt Estate on a cold winter day in 2017. They went hiking to the Lake Michigan shoreline where they shared their first kiss. After their engagement, it wasn't surprising that the Felt Estate was the venue they wanted for their wedding reception. It was the perfect place to continue celebrating their love.
I can't say enough good about our experience with the Felt Estate, and in particular Derrick, our event coordinator. Derrick is kind, compassionate, and very accessible. He answers his phone and emails promptly (on the weekends and even on the 4th of July).
Derrick and the entire team were wonderful to work with pre-pandemic, but when COVID-19 brought unwanted news and uncertanties, Derrick was our advocate. He shared our desire for making this situation the best it could possibly be. Originally, we had a "Plan A" and a "Plan B" (if it happened to rain). On the day of the wedding, we were probably on "Plan J" and "Plan K"!! :) Derrick had many creative ideas to accommodate as many of our guests as possible using multiple spaces at the Felt Esate, but still abiding by the ever-changing state-mandated rules and guidelines. The staff at Felt went above and beyond to get spaces ready for us! (We are very thankful that we rented the whole estate rather than only the mansion/west lawn tent.)
Our caterer said that out of all the venues they have worked with during the coronavirus pandemic, they have been the most impressed with Derrick and Holden (the other event coordinator). Communication and knowledge are so important at a time like this.
While the day looked different than our original plans, it was still very dreamy and magical - everything the bride and groom hoped for!! As the bride's mother, I couldn't be more grateful!!!

DERRICK
Derrick brings a breadth of knowledge to his role at the estate with his experience in food and beverage management as well as theatre production and performance. He is also an event manager and event lighting designer for Holden Michael Events. When there’s a break in the summer, Derrick enjoys heading to Lake Michigan or a local Pride event and traveling with his husband in the off-season. Someday you might see him flying across stage in a local production of Tarzan, a role he’s always wanted to play.
HOLDEN
Holden worked for eight years as an event planner and designer and worked many times at the estate before being brought in as venue manager. Holden also owns Holden Michael Events, an event planning company specializing in events at private properties and non-traditional venues. When he’s not at the estate or working with a couple to plan their wedding, you may find Holden down at Phil’s Bar and Grill enjoying a gin martini and a good book or shopping in downtown Chicago before heading to a Lady Gaga concert or Lyric Opera.
