With this premier location in historic downtown Charlottesville, Virginia, The Space Downtown prides itself on providing an exceptional venue for groups of all sizes. The Space Downtown is ideal for any wedding up to 150 guests!

The Space Downtown was created in late 2010 by owners chefs Tim Burgess and Vincent Derquenne. The two have been partners since 1991, creating their first restaurant Metropolitain which operated in the same location as the Space. It closed in 2003 and the chef pair sold the restaurant but remained owners of the building. In early 2010, the location became vacant and the two decided to open for private parties only.

Excellent Rehearsal Dinner Venue

The Space Downtown was the perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner. The food and service were excellent and they even did our florals as well. Laura was wonderful to work with and we could fully customize our menu. The chalkboard artist was fantastic as well! We’d highly recommend The Space for any future events.

Perfect for any occasion!

The Space Downtown in Cville is exceptional. We just recently had our company holiday party there and I cannot say enough good things about them. They were incredibly responsive and helped us work within our budget and were able to come in under budget.

They were also extremely patient with us gave us ample time to plan and never once pushed us to upsell and give us things we didn't need.

Years ago, I also had my wedding there and it's great to see a place like The Space Downtown continue to have amazing service throughout the years no matter the event type or occasion.

Do yourself a favor and work with The Space Downtown and Laura to plan your event, between the food, service, and atmosphere you will not regret it!

Perfect venue to kick off our wedding weekend!

From signing our contract to the end of our rehearsal dinner and welcome party, The Space (we were working almost exclusively with Laura) was a dream to work with. I have an email chain of probably 50 emails back and forth with Laura as we figured our menus, layouts, décor, etc. She was so patient with us as we had so many questions during the planning process. They have a variety of menus you can built your dinner from (we chose a plated dinner), but they are able to really create anything you want even if it’s not on the menus. We requested a few different indian-style appetizers (paneer, samosa, etc.) which they absolutely delivered! All the food was amazing. Following the rehearsal dinner, we opened to a welcome party for all our wedding guests that were traveling into town for the weekend. We had desserts and an open bar available for our guests which they were able to seamlessly accommodate. The staff there was so attentive and continuously made sure we were happy throughout the event. They also have connections with someone who you can hire to decorate the awesome chalkboards they have behind the bar! They were the perfect venue for what we needed to kick off our wedding weekend!
