History
The Wareham Opera House was originally a theater called The Coliseum, built in 1884 by H.S. Moore. It didn’t receive its current name until 1893, when Harry P. Wareham bought the building and gave it new life. He installed a screen in 1911 for movie showings, making it only the second theater to bring movies to the city. It remained a movie theater until 1986. In 1988, the theater seating was taken out and the flooring was altered to be tiered for the purpose of becoming an event venue.
