About

On WeddingWire since 2007

One of the thirty venues to be recognized on Washingtonian Magazine's list of "Very Best Wedding Vendors: Reception Spaces & Venues" in the DC Metro Area.

Located in Alexandria, Virginia, the world-famous Torpedo Factory Art Center is one of the few Potomac River waterfront special events venues that boasts a rich, illustrious history with breathtaking views of the Potomac River and our Nation’s Capital. True to its name, the Torpedo Factory Art Center once was an actual torpedo factory! The Mark XIV green torpedo currently displayed in the main hall was produced here in 1945 and has since been photographed with thousands of Brides and Grooms. In 1974, the Torpedo Factory Art Center opened to the public. For forty years, artists have worked by day to create one of a kind pieces in their studios and by night we transform our three-tiered, industrial facility to create one of a kind special events and weddings that reflect our clients’ unique vision.

Facilities and Capacity

This Old Town landmark is a perennial special event favorite because the building hosts the works of the most talented national and international artisans from all mediums. Every aspect of the Torpedo Factory Art Center is as remarkable as the artists and their creations. With cylindrical columns, canary yellow hanging lights, electric blue weaved steel railings and a dramatic two-story atrium that can be overlooked by a balcony and two catwalks… this art studio is also a bonified piece of art. The spacious main hall is an ideal location for events and can comfortably host up to 220 seated guests, 700 standing, and 400 for lecture seating (without tables). The striking three-story building retains its identity in daylight as a former factory with exposed pipes, ductwork, and a smokestack, but by night the building becomes the guest’s canvas and transforms into their artistic vision.

Services Offered

Nationally recognized as one of America's Top Art Places, with a "backbone of creative culture... [that is] exceptionally successful at combining art, artists, and venues for creativity and expression” has made the Torpedo Factory Arts Center one of the most sought-after special event venues. In addition to the lore and celebrated art for special events guests to enjoy, it easily partners with outside vendors (décor, lighting, catering sound, DJ, bands) wireless Internet, restrooms on each floor, and parking that is wheelchair accessible and can accommodate a shuttle van. Event set up is between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. and the facility must be restored to the original state and vacated by 1:00 a.m.

Location

Only minutes from Washington D.C. and Reagan National Airport, your visit to Old Town Alexandria promises to be an unforgettable experience. Named the #1 Best Value U.S. Travel Destination 2018 by Money magazine and one of the South’s Prettiest Cities 2018 by Southern Living. A nationally designated historic district founded in 1749 that George Washington called home, Old Town Alexandria hums with more than 200 independent restaurants and boutiques alongside intimate historic museums and new happenings at the waterfront. At the heart of it, all is bustling King Street, a walkable mile recognized as one of the “Great Streets” of America.

Best Venue and Venue Manager!

First off, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is an absolute dream venue. It is beautiful, unique, and affordable (relative to other venue expenses!) Old Town Alexandria is such a beautiful and charming neighborhood as well, and all our guests enjoyed staying there. However, the main reason that the TFAC is so amazing is because of Deri, the venue manager. Immediately, she made my husband and I feel right at home and so much less stressed about the planning. She handled EVERYTHING and went so above and beyond. Even post wedding, she is helping me tie up some loose ends. I can't speak highly enough about her professionalism and her clear passion for her job and making your wedding day perfect. I can't recommend the TFAC enough for your wedding day!

Amazing experience at the Torpedo Factory

We held our high school prom at the Torpedo Factory. And, WOW, what a night it was!! From the recommended vendors to the event planning staff it was perfection and the best prom ever. We had 700 students in attendance. It went off without a hitch. The event staff helped guide us through all of our desires from check in to hanging decorations to the final clean up. We used Bittersweet Catering, DMV Flowerwalls for decoration/360 Photobooth, ACPD and DJ Modern Box/DJ Amplitude. Everyone should use these amazing vendors and recreate our night at the Torpedo Factory. You will be so happy you did. I am so grateful to this amazing team that pulled off a lifetime of memories for our Juniors, Seniors and staff.

The Torpedo Factory is a fantastic place for a wedding, it's VERY cool and VERY modern-looking. They have their own in-house lighting crew, and I'm always impressed with the way they are able to turn the space into a very striking setting!

Looking for a unique venue? The Torpedo Factory is where it's at! I love this venue because it's in the heart of Old Town Alexandria (convenient to hotels, parking garages, the waterfront, restaurants, etc), is affordable, is HUGE for being a relatively historic property, and best of all is one-of-a-kind. Where else in the DC area will you find an industrial-looking art center? With the lighting package from John Farr, this spot really turns into a beautiful and completely unique space. I guarantee your guests will be talking about for years to come. It beats any hotel ballroom, hands down. Give Tara a call and go check it out! Be sure to look at the photos of the space with lighting...it's a completely different feel than during the day when it's open to the public.
