The UniQ history began in the Fall of 1994 when Owner/Artist, Doug Mitchell, traveled to Mexico on vacation where he selected jewelry to bring back to the States. Upon returning home, Doug showed these pieces to friends and family. Intrigued by the response to the jewelry and his personal enjoyment of sharing the items, Doug returned to Mexico to select more items. However, this time he also shared with the artisans his personal jewelry sketches. His design and concept skills impressed the metal artists, and Doug's drawings became jewelry reality! Again, he returned home with selections as well as his personal designs to a warm reception and quick sales. On the suggestion of a friend, he developed the concept of using private shows to market his products. To advance his professional expertise, Doug next formed an association with a small "Mom and Pop" jewelry store where he learned the jewelry business from working behind the jewelers bench to selling on the sales floor, to learning the different characteristics of gemstones, to creating jewelry from concept to the finished product.

Through networking and contacts with worldwide vendors Doug’s broad base of information continues to increase and UniQ’s wide selection of jewelry and jewelry services expands each year. What remains constant is the company goal of providing exceptional customer service with distinctive, quality products.
