      Popular Connecticut Wedding Destinations

It's hard to expect anything other than magic from a city called Mystic, and magic is exactly what you'll get. Featuring coastlines, gentle hills and plenty of harbor charm, there are many options for a beautiful Connecticut wedding. History buffs will love touring Mystic's re-created coastal village and the last wooden whaling ship-the Charles W. Morgan. For those longing for a glamorous wedding like those of silver screen legends of the past, try the Inn at Mystic where Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart honeymooned. The Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration offers an undersea wonderland just right for a magical wedding. New Haven, home to Yale University, is a cultural, well... haven! With long, lovely beaches, beautiful vineyards, and incredible art museums, there's no shortage of Connecticut wedding venues for a perfect wedding in Connecticut. The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is a popular destination featuring dinosaur fossils, Native American artifacts, and Egyptian mummies. Or head over to Hammonasset Beach State Park, which offers a two-mile-long beach and facilities for camping, swimming, picnicking and more. A wedding here would be anything but ordinary. Hartford, the capital of the Constitution State, is filled with wedding-ready locales like the Elizabeth Park Rose Gardens and the nearby Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam. No matter where you go in Connecticut, there are endless attractions to enjoy.

      Wedding Décor and Weather

The weather in Connecticut is moderate with four distinct seasons. Snow is abundant in the winter, while summers bring pleasant temperatures in the mid-70s. Coastal towns enjoy slightly milder weather than inland cities. Regardless, weather can change quickly here, so be prepared for anything. If you're planning a winter wedding in Connecticut, be ready for a white wedding. Celebrate blankets of snow with cool colors like pale blues and silvers. Incorporate metallic touches throughout for a frosted, regal look. If you've planned a summer wedding on the coast, aim for beachy style with a mariner's touch in faded greens and tans. Use delicate netting to drape across tables and incorporate shells and driftwood in your tablescapes.

      Food and Music

Connecticut has a rich food history and is famous as the birthplace of the hamburger, the home of a pizza-based cult classic movie, and, of course, shellfish. Whether you want white clam pizza and lobster rolls, or steamed hamburgers and fries, Connecticut catering companies can customize your wedding menu to fit your tastes. Once you and your guests have eaten your fill, you'll be ready to dance. Bands in Connecticut are ready to meet your needs, covering every genre of music you desire.

      Travel Information and Costs

The cost of a wedding in Connecticut is significantly higher than the national average. This may be because state taxes in Connecticut are on the high end, so keep that in mind as you purchase items for your wedding. If you're going for a luxurious event, keep in mind that there's also a luxury tax here. Because of higher costs, guests may choose to drive into your wedding. If so, encourage them to take Route 7 if possible, as it was named one of the most scenic driving destinations in the country. Traveling by train is another great way to see the beauty of the Connecticut landscape.

      Marriage License

A marriage license in Connecticut will cost you between $30 and $35, and cash is best. Connecticut requires a bit more information than other states, so be prepared to bring a government issued photo ID, social security numbers, parents' birthplaces, your mother's maiden name, the date and location of your wedding, and the name and contact information of your wedding officiant. You are not required to be a resident of Connecticut to get married here, but you will need to apply for your license in the town you'll be marrying in, or, if you are a Connecticut resident, in the town you live in. There is no waiting period once you receive your license, but some towns may require that you pick up the license the day after you've applied. Your marriage license is valid only in Connecticut for 65 days from the date of issue.
