Incredible Accommodations at Such a Reasonable Price

Debbie was amazing!! She helped every step of the way. She was quick to respond and accommodate. She helped us add a COVID addendum to our contract, then gave a full refund when we had to pull the plug on our big day. She was so understanding which we appreciated.

This venue has everything and is so affordable for what you get. The courtyard is the perfect space and ambiance with the bistro lights. We loved the fact that the buffet could be covered. They provided tables, chairs, a bar, and staff members for the night. We also loved the front area, before the main doors. It is such a large space that overlooks Papago - perfect area to set up cornhole, tall boy tables, and host your cocktail hour. We also loved that the venue included in the total cost was free parking for guests, indoor restrooms, the option to move inside if need be, a conference room to hold our stuff and get ready in, and letting guests wander the exhibits all night. It's in a perfect location, right in the heart of Papago Park and just steps away from the most beutiful, scenic, desert landscape for photos. And there is so much to do in Tempe for your out of town guests! Right across from the Zoo, ASU campus, and golf course. Lots of nearby hotels and Uber everywhere. We will definitely be recommending this event space to all our friends and family for their weddings!

So many great things to say

I cannot hush enough about this amazing venue. Don was the most helpful- constantly responding to my crazy texts on the day of, answering all questions, and helping with as much as he could. The venue is gorgeous for an outside wedding, with so many great photo opportunities. Our original venue fell through a month before the wedding, and this place fell into our hands. I would recommend the venue to anyone who needs a lovely place to get married, or just a neat venue for an occasion.

Shalonda at Arizona Historical Society Museum was very responsive and helpful with all of our needs for setting up the venue for our wedding day. She even agreed to have the temperature in one of storage rooms lowered so we could store all the flowers in there overnight as opposed to having to haul them all over in the morning. The venue looked great during our sunset ceremony and everyone was please with the amount of space to move around, and our out of town guests loved having the natural landscape as a backdrop. The option to choose all our own vendors and supply our own alcohol for the bar makes it the best value for a wedding venue in the Papago Park area hands down.

This was a beautiful and elegant venue for a wedding. The ability to bring in your own vendors is a great plus. Shalonda was very professional, attentive and accommodating. The ONLY negative was a snippy front desk clerk when we returned after the event looking for a forgotten item.

Part of our criteria for choosing a venue was that the price we paid would feel more like a philanthropic donation to an established institution than a rental, and we found that at the Arizona Historical Society Museum. We even paid a little more to have the museum open just to us and our guests before the wedding, which was lovely. AZHS's prices are totally worth it during the off-season, and you're not even sacrificing anything because their A/C is INCREDIBLE, and the Sandstone Lobby is naturally beautiful. We loved working with Shalonda as well. She was SO flexible with us and put up with my endless emails. Thank you, AZHS! We now have a beautiful place that we can go and enjoy on our anniversaries! I look forward to more exhibits :D

We had our reception in the Brick Courtyard of the museum. The setting was beautiful! Seth was so easy to work with and so helpful with everything. Everything went great the day of the wedding, and it was all at a price you just could not beat. We really could not have asked for more!!

My husband and I got married at Arizona Historical Society Museum this past October 13th, 2012. It was AMAZING! We had our ceremony in the courtyard, cocktail hour in the desert terrace, and reception in the courtyard as well. Everything was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. Seth was AMAZING. By far the best vendor I have ever worked with. I highly recommend this venue. The photos posted don't do it justice!

We got married at the museum in October of 2010, and it was one of the most amazing days of our life! Seth and Hannah were extremely responsive to all of our requests, and they went above and beyond to make our wedding perfect.

We were married at sunset in the courtyard and had our cocktail reception at the upper desert pavillion. Our reception and dinner was also in the courtyard. We had mood lighting, used the lanterns and had two buffets set up.
We rented the "boardroom" to get ready the day of the wedding. This was perfect for everyone to get their hair and makeup done.

Getting married at the AZ Historical Society Museum made our wedding so great! Thank you Seth and Hannah for all of your work.

This was such a unique place for our wedding. We were able to take pictures in the museum and they turned out amazing. The outdoor courtyard was beautiful and made for a very romantic ceremony. It was such a great value for all that was included.

The staff here were very helpful and knowledgeable. They had answers for everything, along with recommendations and attention to clients. It was a beautiful evening, and every guest commented on how lovely the venue is. It is a great place for someone who doesn't want to spend thousands but looks great, allows outside vendors (!), and has a staff that will assist in anything and everything. I highly recommend the AZHS!!!

    Beautiful Venue

The Heritage Center is a beautiful venue for weddings or other events. The red brick courtyard is beautiful during the day and lights are strung above and on the trees to light up the area at night. I originally planned for an outside ceremony and reception, but had to move the reception inside because of an unusually cold weekend in Phoenix. They were very flexible and worked with me to move everything inside the day before. Rental of the space comes with use of their table and chairs and they also offer the rental of linens (in black or white) and heaters for outside. While I had my heart set on an outside reception, the inside space was beautiful and the atmosphere was perfect.

The pros of this wedding venue is that you are not limited to certain vendors, you can bring in your own alcohol, as long as you hire a licensed bar tender to serve it. This allowed me to save a lot of money, while still having an open bar. Another pro is that the Heritage Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which made me feel good when paying to rent a space.

There are not many cons, but be aware that they do not have a wedding planner at this venue, so you will have to organize everything yourself or hire a day of wedding coordinator. They do meet with you ahead of time and create a floor plan and set up the table chairs, linens, etc. There is also someone from the venue dedicated to work your event. But you will need to have someone on hand to accept delivers from outside venues, and set up anything you are renting or brining in yourself. I hired a day of coordinator and would highly recommend that.

We paid extra to keep the museum open during cocktail hour and my guest loved it. Papago park is just outside the back gate and there are plenty of areas to take wedding pictures in the desert landscape. I absolutely loved this venue and so did my guest. I would highly recommend it!

I am so in love with this venue. It is a hidden gem in Tempe. Debbie was wonderful to work with too. I really adore her, and she was so helpful throughout the process. She was a little slow responding, but only because she basically runs the whole show there.

I absolutely would host another event here without a second though. I absolutely loved it, and it was an incredible value. They didn't have set caterers and you could supply your own alcohol as long as you had a licensed bartender, which saved us thousands compared to some other options we looked at. Plus, tons of parking!!!

Our wedding was magical! The setting was perfect - we got married 40 minutes before sunset and was able to experience the beautiful AZ sunsets with the back drop of the beautiful Papago Mountains. Everyone raved at how beautiful it was and loved being able to view the exhibits during the wedding. It was perfect and definitely reasonably priced.

Seth was so easy to work with. He made everything very seamless. On the day of my wedding, it was a balmy 60 degrees, and we made the final call at 2pm to keep everything outdoors, and added some heaters. However, by 4:30pm, the wind had picked up and it was starting to sprinkle. We kept the ceremony outdoors, but we had less than 30 minutes to re-setup inside the lobby of the museum. The staff worked with my wedding planner to make sure everything was set and in place in a timely manner. I truly appreciate the last minute option of moving everything inside. It was still gorgeous and we had a great time. I just wish the weather would have cooperated a bit more. The brick courtyard is breathtaking when it's lit up at night. I would definitely have another event here... and would HIGHLY recommend it.

We chose Arizona Heritage Center for its convenient location and because we could bring in our own alcohol and catering (we did Chipotle—our guests loved it and we saved a ton!). We also got a 15% discount since I work for a non-profit. Booking this venue ended up involving more work than I anticipated (the site only provides chairs and tables, with an option to rent heat lamps and lighting)—but it was a great opportunity for us to involve our family and friends in pulling off a beautiful wedding.

We felt that the setting really reflected our love for Arizona, without too much Western theme. It was so beautiful for all our photos and both the afternoon ceremony and evening reception. Our guests could also enjoy cocktail hour near the entrance while our staff broke down the ceremony stuff and flipped it for the reception. We got so many compliments on how beautiful the place was.

In addition to renting the courtyard, we rented the upstairs boardroom for the bridal party to get ready. We were given access to the Glass Pavilion, even though we hadn’t rented it—it turned out to be perfect for photos and first look. The venue also had a good indoor rain option which gave us peace of mind.

Debbie, the onsite coordinator, is new to Arizona Heritage Center, but she brings years of experience to the role. She was far more present and available than I expected, and she was very responsive when issues arose. We had a problem with the venue’s heat lamps that we had rented, but she worked really hard to make sure that was resolved.

The Historical Society was a beautiful location to be married in. The thing that frustrated me about the location however was the beautiful potted trees in the courtyard (where we had the ceremony and reception) were killed by frost and were not replaced. They look dead and tacky in my pictures, but everything else was lovely.

    Constant Airplane Noise

None of these reviews mentions the almost constant noise of airplanes overhead every few minutes. We attended a fundraiser there and my only thought was "thank goodness it is not a wedding." Otherwise is was beautiful.

This is a very beautiful venue! Our guests really enjoyed the landscape! We thought this venue was a great value, especially since you are able to use the chairs and tables that they already had. If you are usomg their beautiful courtyard you want to be mindful that it is near an airport and planes will fly over you. From the beginning of our planning process we did have a difficult to e getting in touch and communicating with the event coordinator. I learned that email is best. It made things a little difficult as I was planning from out of state, but overall i would not choose a different venue. This one was unforgettable.

Unlike a dull banquet hall, you don't have to dress this place up much with expensive flowers and decorations. The facility is attractive, unique and has great space for a larger outdoor reception. The value for the location is good for the rates they charge. Add to that the fact that they are comparatively very flexible with regards to the use of outside vendors, and you don't have to pay sales tax, because they are a non-profit.

The night before our wedding (4/20/2012), Governor Romney's 2012 presidential campaign organized a last-minute fundraiser at the museum. How did we know it was the Romney campaign? They left Mitt Romney signs, stickers and junk all over the place along with some nasty signs regarding Senator Santorum. They also left two porta-potties right out in front of the entrance. I noticed it that morning, and thought they would have everything cleaned up by the time guests arrived 9 hours later, wrong. We arrived at the reception to find our guests lined up to greet us near the porta-potties that had been sitting there in 104 degree heat all day.

The problem was that there was nobody there to take charge to get done the things that needed to be done. There was one guy there to clean, but that wasn't enough. I think there were supposed to be more, but they didn't show. During the reception, we also had an electrical issue with the outlets in the courtyard, and didn't really have anybody to go to for help. Luckily, a guy who I think was the security guard was able to help us get things up and running again.

To be fair, it was the responsibility of the Romney fundraiser to clean up after itself just as it was ours the next night, and they did not. Upon hearing of the problems, the museum acted quickly to make things right with us, and for that I thank them and have no hard feelings. In all, I would still recommend having an event here. Just make sure that you have someone who will be there and in charge on the day of.

Overall, we were very happy with the Arizona Heritage Center. It's a beautiful space and we received a lot of compliments on how unique it is. We also loved that we could bring in our own food and drink. They also allow live bands and don't have a noise cutoff.

I will say that Debbie is pretty slow to respond. She shared several times how they are short staffed and that a lot of duties had fallen to her. Totally understandable, but sometimes created stress. The other piece that caused us some frustration is that the costs can add up pretty quickly. It's an incredibly reasonably priced venue, but every extra is about $300. Something to keep in mind.

We used their tables, chairs and linens and were very happy with how they looked.

Overall, we were really happy with this venue and loved how it looked.
