    Wedding 10/8/2022

    My husband and I got married on 10/8/2022 and we could not have wished for a more perfect day! Everything went so smoothly and the venue and its staff were fantastic! Mark was very accommodating and willing to work with us to make our day fantastic. I would highly recommend this venue!

    Amazing Time

    My son got married on 10/8/2022 and the night went perfectly. Mark and his staff were very professional and made sure every detail was covered throughout the night. I would highly recommend this venue if you are looking for an amazing venue and an accommodating staff!

    An absolute gem!

    A real gem! We hosted a wedding at River Vista on October 01, 2022 and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect event center. The outdoor wedding set up with the arch was absolutely gorgeous!. The inside set up was beautifully done from the candle lit stairway to the place settings. The food was outstanding-all the guests were raving about both the chicken and steak plated meals. The appetizers were delicious and there were plenty of them! Mark, the chef did a phenomenal job and Laurie was very helpful with all the details during the event. The staff was professional and friendly. Mark was a pleasure to work with and very helpful with suggestions. We highly recommend River Vista-it was perfect and the bride and groom are so happy that they chose River Vista for their memorable day!

    Wedding reception on 9/24/2022. Excellent from start to finish!

    The River Vista Center is set on the Oswego River with beautiful views , both inside and out. The guests at my son’s reception were able to take in this beauty either on the large deck or through the huge windows. Mark was so easy to work with. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Our guests raved about the variety on the buffet, and many went back for seconds. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The tables were beautifully set and the dance floor had ample space. We also chose Bella Dolce Designs from Oswego, NY to do the center pieces and other accents. We highly recommend them as well. We are very happy to see local businesses do well.

    Couldn't have done any better!

    We knew from the second we saw this place we loved it, Nancy and her family did not disappoint one bit! They went above and beyond and made our day completely flawless. We can't say enough great things about River Vista. Thank you so much!!

    Amazing to work with!

    River Vista was absolutely amazing. They really let us put our own personal touch on our wedding the way they were able to accommodate us.

    My husband and I loved everything about River Vista! They were easy to communicate with and helped out with anything we needed during our wedding planning. The day before and the day of our wedding they were extremely helpful and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it and accommodated our needs to make sure everything was picture perfect for our special day!

    Chrissy and her Mom Nancy were wonderful to our family when we had our daughters reception at Rivervista ! They were so accommodating and flexible. The place was beautiful on the the day of the wedding and they let us come in and add our special touches to make the day perfect ! We had the wedding outside under the canopy and they decorated it for us since we didn't have time. They had beautiful flower arrangements near the canopy and on the deck. The Friday evening was beautiful weather but they were prepared to pull the ceremony in if it had rained. They thought of everything and were so warm and caring. I highly recommend them for receptions of any kind!!

    John and I were married at River Vista 9.24.16. Everything went surprisingly perfect! I'm a worrier, so I was expecting snags, but there were none. Even the weather turned out beautiful for our special day! :-P The staff was wonderful, the food was AMAZING, and the venue overall was just gorgeous. Even the DJ that the venue directed us towards was great! If I could do our wedding over every year, I would. And I would do it at River Vista!

    Absolutely gorgeous venue, no complaints there. There Oct. 21st for daughters wedding. Friday evening rehearsal, Nancy was extremely rude when the children arrived. Told our daughter which way the bridal party would be walking, (down the stairs), no options.
    At wedding, complained we were not getting started, caterers were late, going to go over our time limit. Started cleaning up tables, peoples drinks and peoples cake while guests were dancing, well before time to leave. Bartender and other staff wonderful! Would not recommend due to Nancy

    Hi Mary, I apologize for the delayed response. I was reviewing this with Nancy, the owner of River Vista. We typically receive rave reviews about Nancy specifically. Unfortunately for this wedding, the couple indicated they were using a caterer we approved in the booking process with the couple, we do not typically allow outside catering but made an exception. The person who showed up to do the catering was not the approved caterer, it was not even a real catering company - they were not prepared to deliver the type of service and event we typically pride ourselves on (they did not even bring enough staff). This caused a great deal of disruption and stress for us, we also felt very much deceived by the way this was handled by the couple. We did our best to not have this impact the success of the event. This is not an excuse, but we have since reviewed our policy on allowing outside catering and we learned quite a bit from making the exception for your daughter and her husband.

    Appalled by the Most Negative Experience

    It’s unfortunate that I have to write this review for River Vista Center, because we had high hopes for this venue. When we initially booked this venue, it was under different management. During the pandemic, the venue chef took over ownership. The reviews prior to 2020 are based on the previous owners. Leading up to our wedding the new owner was pleasant and accommodating. We went for a tasting and the food was delicious. We were excited for our guests to try his food. The closer we got to our wedding though, we started to encounter problems. Our contract included upgraded linens, uplighting and a photo booth. We did not receive any of those things. Two months before our wedding I emailed him the linens we wanted and it took him 30 days to get back to me. By that point, he said they were backordered. He did have an alternate option and took the linen charge off our bill. I asked him if I could see the uplighting options so I could decide on the colors I wanted and each time I was told “sure,” but it never happened. I also asked about the photo booth and if we could look at templates and see how the words would look on the printed photos. He assured me he’d take care of all that. We decided on the photo booth instead of favors. Fast forward to our reception and there is no photo booth OR up lighting. He came up to us, during our reception, while we were eating, hands us $200 and tells us the photo booth is broken and that he did not set up the up lighting. And proceeds to complain about staff calling in and cleaning writing off the bathroom wall that took him “15 hours.” No apology for not having the photo booth or uplighting we were looking forward too and expected, no congratulations, no regard for the fact that this is one of the most important nights of our lives, or that we should be enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime event. He blamed the writing on the wall on someone from our party, which if that was true, then we could have resolved that after the wedding. We thought for sure the food would be amazing, but it ended up being a major disappointment. The chicken and beef had no flavor and the rice was undercooked. He blamed the rice being crunchy on us, saying we took too long to get our food, but no one let us know the food was ready. When it was time for our champagne toast, there was no champagne ready, so we asked the bar tender to get it ready while we cut our cake. Next thing we know the owner comes over to us and yells at us in front of all our guests! He yelled that we are only allowed a champagne toast and not our guests. We paid for full open bar and on his website, it clearly says that with open bar ALL GUESTS get a champagne toast. He threw in our face the fact that he gave us a discount on open bar, which we appreciated, but he never once told us that that meant that only we were to get the champagne toast. This was a clear miscommunication and did not warrant him yelling at us in front of our guests. It was embarrassing and so unprofessional. Imagine being yelled at about champagne in front of all your guests at your own wedding! He also yelled at my mother-in-law at one point. He told one of our friends that “we have been hovering over him for 3 days now.” WE WERE GETTING READY FOR OUR WEDDING AND HE IS THE VENUE OWNER WHERE 100% OF OUR WEDDING WOULD BE HAPPENING! Any “hovering” we did was us prepping for our big day. I’m not sure how else we would be able to get things done if we did not ask him questions. He is in the wrong business if he can’t tolerate reasonable questions/ requests about the business HE is running. There were many other things that went wrong. He said to let him know how many vegetarian meals I would need and where they would be sitting. I emailed and printed him a seating chart with the 3 guests that needed veg. meals. I also put a “V” on their place card. When one of the guests asked him where her veg. meal was, he told her we never told him about any veg. meals. I have text messages that prove the opposite. So, the 3 guests who are vegetarian did not get a meal. His staff was not refilling water or telling tables when it was their turn to go up and get food (it was a buffet), so most tables had to take it upon their selves to go get food. The bar was understocked (they ran out of certain liquors, wine, and beer, early on) and the bartender was extremely rude to many of my guests. Our wedding cake was cut and put out for guests but there were no utensils put out for the cake once the tables were cleared, so our entire wedding cake went to waste. I know that it’s inevitable for things to go wrong and certainly some of the things that went wrong were not entirely the owner’s fault, and I can look past most things, but him yelling at us, was completely uncalled for. The ceremony space is beautiful, but the owner is unorganized, ill-prepared and unprofessional. I would not recommend working with this man. It really is unbelievable how poorly he behaved. I’m dumbfounded.

    NEW
    **SAVE YOURSELF THE HEARTACHE AND TROUBLE FROM BOOKING ANYTHING HERE**

    From start to finish this venue is absolutely an EMBARRASSMENT. My fiancé and I booked this venue for our wedding. The first problem was that Mark DOUBLE BOOKED our wedding! We changed the date reluctantly with him due to not wanting to go through the hassle of finding another venue on such short notice. Note Mark gave us a free photo booth, champagne toast, grilled veggies and cured meat along with “upgraded linens” due to him double booking our wedding date.

    We then went back to visit the venue. We visited on the 23rd of June which is obviously considered wedding season. The venue was run down not not up-kept to say the least. The ceiling was leaking, the outdoor patio was overgrown with weeds. This was just the beginning of another unpleasant experience. Mark informed my fiancé she would have to hang up her own decorations on the archway for the ceremony. He also mentioned he “practically was making nothing” off of this wedding due to adding a few free things because HE DOUBLE BOOKED IT.

    Now if you think all of this is bad, it gets worse. Mark then brought us to look at decorations on the other side of the venue. He mentioned “Don’t mind the air mattress that’s setup, I’ve been sleeping here.” As in he SLEEPS AT THE VENUE!

    We left the venue confused, angry and worried. After many discussions we finally decided to cancel. Mark then proceeded to call us back claiming we were being abrasive, that we should have told him sooner. Again no apology, let alone genuine accountability. He became argumentative pleading his case along with the fact he had already bought food for the tasting we had scheduled. He also claims to have priced us at “half off” when we had notable proof that was not done.

    Please DO NOT BOOK HERE! I hope this review saves someone the heartache, torment and anxiety this venue has caused us, let alone losing money on vendors and a large deposit. If this review doesn’t tell you enough READ THE OTHERS!
