The wedding and experience of my dreams

Planning a multi-day Indian wedding is challenging, but planning a destination Indian wedding in Tahoe came with an incredible number of benefits and challenges. Somehow, the wedding and event coordination team at Palisades managed to take on 200 out-of-town guests and 3 days of events and turn it into the best weekend of our lives! From the attentive guest experience for our friends and family staying on-site to curating a brand new Indian fusion menu for our mountaintop Sangeet, Mercedes and her team went above and beyond to make everything perfect. Our guests are still talking about how incredible our locations were (Sangeet at High Camp, Ceremony in front of Olympic Valley Lodge and Reception inside the lodge) and I still can't believe how lucky we were to find our dream venue. Every single person we worked with went out of their way to work with us and our families and did it with the most positive, professional and proactive mentality that made us feel so comfortable and excited. Choose Palisades and I guarantee you'll have the best possible guest experience and scenery for your big day!

    Dream Wedding Venue!

Where to begin!! We got married here on 7/23/22 and had the absolute BEST experience. My mom and I looked at six venues in early summer 2021 before booking Palisades Tahoe High Camp (previously Squaw Valley). From the initial tour, Jenna did an amazing job of answering all my questions and setting appropriate expectations for the wedding day with backup plans should the weather not cooperate for High Camp. Eventually we transitioned over to Mercedes as our venue coordinator and we couldn’t be more thrilled about our experience working with her. She made everything as seamless as possible and was willing to accommodate some unique touches we requested (hanging our Michigan flag at high camp, serving our favorite coffee, etc.). Everyone raved about the food (we chose the buffet for timeline purposes and it turned out beautifully) and we couldn’t be happier with the service provided across the board—from the tram operators to the servers and bartenders. They were super accommodating for allergies as well (I’m gluten free and my sister is dairy free). We also booked our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Base Camp and had a great experience. It was the perfect space for hosting that type of event! Overall, we had our dream wedding and that wouldn’t have been possible without this venue!!

Top notch service from an amazing staff

As an out of state (from Kentucky) Mother of the Groom who had never been to the Tahoe area, I felt a little overwhelmed trying to ensure our guests had quality lodging close together as well as trying to plan and host a rehearsal dinner. I cannot emphasize enough how helpful and professional this group proved to be. Each and every person I talked with was happy to answer my many questions and help me work out all the details of our event. The lodging was wonderful! All of our guests seemed beyond satisfied with their accommodations. The rehearsal dinner at Rocker was fabulous from the décor, to the food, to the service. What a fabulous spot for a wedding celebration!

    Wedding of our dreams

We had an incredible experience with Palisades Tahoe! Jenna was our first touchpoint and she is incredibly knowledgeable & patient. She had all the answers to our tedious questions. We reached out to every venue in North lake and we landed on Palisades due to the customer service and value. We were then introduced to Shannon who is absolutely wonderful. Shannon is sharp and really helped us build the wedding of our dreams in the final hours. We were planned to get married at High Camp but the smoke from the Caldor Fires had other plans for us and we had to change venues down in the village at Olympic Inn, the morning of. Shannon was so comforting throughout the day and the switch was seamless.

The food was also delicious! Everyone at the wedding was raving about the food and desserts :)

We highly recommend Palisades Tahoe for the view, value, and customer service!

    My dream come true

I LOVE Squaw Valley. Communicating with Jenna has been so easy and convenient. We toured Squaw at the end of last month, September and we were able to easily pick any day we want. There has been no time constraint or worry. We meeting with Jenna she throughly showed us around and my fiance and I fell in love immediately. She even had a folder prepared for us that was specifically geared towards what we were looking for. Our payments for the Venue are set up in 4 easy installments, for someone who normally stresses about money all the time, It will be easy to make sure we have enough at time of payment. I can't wait to see how beautifully our wedding turns out because thanks to Squaw Valley, the majority of the work is already done for us, at an affordable cost. When a venue says they are expensive because they provide a lot at a beautiful area (which is always suppose to save you money in the long run) This one truly hits the mark and doesn't lie.

Katie was very professional and nice to work with. We received so many compliments from our guests that the garden at OVL was such a beautiful place. Our goal was to having a wedding in a place where we could hang out with our guests all weekend and the Village provided the perfect place for this, since bars and stores were open, no one had to leave the area. It was exactly what we wanted.

Our wedding at Squaw Valley was everything we could have wanted and more! We got married at High Camp on August 17th, 2013, and our reception was on the KT deck. We had 105 guests and everyone raved that they had a great time!

We are avid skiers at Squaw Valley and this resort has meant so much to us for a great while now, but the support Squaw gave us during the wedding process and at the wedding makes us forever fans!

From the beginning they made the planning process enjoyable. The tours and the personalized sit down taste testing with the chef and my parents were so special. All of the emails exchanged and the openness to respond to my phone calls were so appreciated! We are especially appreciative of Sarah Winters, planning manager at Squaw, who worked hard to make everything come together seemlessly!

The food was delicious and everyone raved! Our DJ and other venders were able to work with Squaw easily. And most of all, the availability to all of the venue locations was a dream!

Most of our guests stayed at The Village at Squaw Valley, and some guests stayed in cabins nearby. The two families and friends were able to walk to each other’s hotel rooms and spend time with each other in the suites and local shops. The rooms and accommodations were perfect! Everyone was blown away by the views and felt so comfortable in the rooms. This detail could have easily been overlooked, but it ended up being more impactful to the weekend than we had thought and we were so pleased!

Our budget was tight, and we were able to incorporate do-it-yourself details (florwers and cup cakes) to make the wedding affordable. Having Squaw do everything from venue set-up to catering food and beverage made it easier on us too.

We really couldn't say enough about all of the details! Thank you Squaw!!

    The wedding of our dreams!

We were just married 10/1/21 at Olympic Valley Lodge and it was everything we envisioned! The venue itself is so stunning you really don’t need to do much to create the perfect wedding setting. We worked with Jenna, Caitlin and Tyler who all delivered high quality service! The ceremony lawn and views are insane and OLV is just meant to host a cozy wedding space. The location of the venue to the village is so convenient for lodging and makes it super easy to make a whole weekend out of the wedding with things to do around the area. If you love being in the mountains, I would recommend this venue to you!

    Our dream alpine wedding

We had our 85 guest wedding on 8/24/19. The ceremony was on the lawn by Cushing Pond, cocktail hour on the deck and reception inside the KT Base Bar. We were so happy with our choice to go with Squaw and the location. The spot with the mountains rising behind you was gorgeous and it was easy for guests to get around given close proximity from ceremony to reception. Squaw was very good to work with. We were given a Facilities Planner, Mercedes, who provided excellent service and such a big help - especially since I didn't have a hired wedding planner. Overall we felt that Squaw was a really great "one stop shop" since your contract covers food and beverage, the space, tables, chairs, linens, etc. You have options to customize if you want - but you can keep it simple and go with what they've got! The food Squaw provided was impressive and exceeded expectations. We had their pastry chef make us a small cutting cake and individual desserts and they were so yummy. The Tahoe shaped sugar cookies were just perfect. Thank you Squaw for a making our dream wedding come true!

Awesome venue and staff! Squaw was great to work with from the first time we contacted them through the entire wedding process. Brooke helped book our date and her and the Squaw team were very willing to work with us on some of our concerns about venue and costs. After we were booked we were put in touch with Katie, who was absolutely fabulous to work with! She was so accommodating to us and our family through the entire process and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to work with her. Our tasting was great with Katie and the chef and we were thrilled they offered a BBQ buffet option as this was the thing my now husband really wanted. For a venue that provides their own catering, the food really was fantastic. The short ribs and chicken were so tender and the menu came with so many awesome sides like loaded mashed potatoes, cornbread, black bean and corn salad, mac and cheese, brussels, and even more! We had a ton of compliments on the food and my only regret was not asking for a special "bride and groom to-go box" to really get to enjoy the day after our wedding when we weren't so exhausted.

We were so excited to also be able to have our ceremony and reception at High Camp. Our "dream" wedding was a mountain top ceremony and Squaw absolutely delivered. Our guests got to take the Squaw tram to the top which was such a fun touch to a wedding...minus the people that are scared of heights. The views from the top were awesome and clear and the Terrace room provided more sweeping views of the lake and mountains without the wind. We were able to take a lot of our decorations up to the top and store them the day before the wedding which was also great and helpful for our day of coordinators to just go and set up vs lug everything up the day of.

The other awesome thing about the Squaw venue was the village. So many restaurant selections, hotels, shops, etc for the guests to enjoy and not have to drive anywhere! Also super close to Tahoe City with free shuttle in summer.

Squaw was perfect for my husband and I. The venues they offer are AMAZING. To have High Camp as a venue with OVL as a back up...with both locations reserved in case of weather changes, etc. was awesome. We were so surprised we could afford it. The Village was a great place to have guests stay and hang out for the weekend. Communication between the event team and the hotel was terrible though. Our block of rooms got messed up a few times, but they made it up to us in the end. The event teams were a little bureaucratic to work with, but all the individuals were great. We had our own wedding planner for the day, who seemed overwhelmed through the planning process and actually left the job during our planning. Management stepped in and took great care of us. They took some time to answer questions via email, but you could always pick up the phone and call. Just stay on them. We had a great tasting with the chef ahead of time. The food was pretty good, but didn't blow us away. You have to go with their catering, and they did a good job for the event. The bar staff and servers were attentive the day of. We were deciding between Squaw and an all inclusive venue. We decided to take on a little more of the work ourselves to have the WOW factor for the day of. Our highest priority was getting married in a gorgeous spot and you couldn't beat it for the price. For us, was worth dealing with the slow response times and bureaucracies of Squaw.

    Amazing venue, ok service

My husband and I have a lot of history at Squaw, which made getting married there really meaningful for us, and in general I'm very glad we had our wedding at High Camp and I'd recommend it. For better and for worse, it's not as premium of an experience as you'd expect given how unique the venue is, breakdown below.

    Pros:
+ The venue fee at High Camp was MUCH more affordable than I expected. Honestly, for a 100 person wedding, it isn't really much more expensive than getting married at the bottom of Squaw or more casual venues around the lake (e.g., Gatekeeper's Cabin), and that was an extremely pleasant surprise
+ The High Camp renovation is beautiful. The space had been very dated and underutilized for a long time, which is a shame b/c the views are so good and the experience is so unique, so it's great that the interior vibe finally lives up to the exterior views
+ You can't beat the tram ride up as a unique wedding experience, and it made for great wedding photos as well
+ It is one of the more "all-inclusive" options in the area, in that what you pay for gives you linens, place settings, flatware, etc. It's great not to have to make those million smaller decisions and factor in their cost

    Cons:
+ As others have mentioned, the service level from planning support is average at best- they are all very nice, but there are issues with slow response times, having to tell them things multiple times before changes actually get implemented, etc. It's generally little things, but 1) it's annoying to have to continuously follow up with them in the midst of broader wedding planning and 2) I could see micro-manage-y brides getting pretty upset. A few specific examples: we had requested to try the salmon at our meal tasting, and it just wasn't there, despite the fact that when I went back and looked at my email about tasting choices, it was listed, and we ended up including it in the wedding without ever having tried it. We were told that we'd have a hotel room available the morning of the wedding at a specific time to do bridal party hair and makeup, and when I got to the front desk (as my makeup folks were arriving), the front desk was like, "Oh no, we don't have a room for you." (they did end up finding one for me but that was definitely a short moment of panic). This one is kind of crazy- their billing department had issues charging my CC for our deposit and forgot to tell me, so a week before our wedding I ended up having to pay for like 75% of our cost when I thought I had already covered 25%. Our wedding day itself went off without a hitch, but in the lead up there were definitely some hiccups with Squaw planning

+ The food and alcohol are relatively expensive, and to some degree that does offset the less expensive venue fee. I'll also flag that if you do a consumption bar, it looks like things can get expensive fast as they charge A LOT for soft drinks (believe me, I built a small financial model and did scenario analysis on this... #nerdalert)

Our experience at squaw was ok. The wedding day itself was beautiful inside the Olympic village lodge but the staff is uninformed and not responsive through the entire planning process. I think the worst was that we were told there was a rain venue for the garden ceremony and there wasn't. It rained on our day and we had to tent the ceremony which was not ideal as the garden is an infilled swimming pool and does not absorb water properly. There were many soggy patches in lovely tent. I am not sure I'd advise anyone to work with squaw on their wedding unless they are willing to go the extra mile monitoring every aspect of the interaction.

The space was truly beautiful but they continuously misrepresented what the cost of things would be. It took them weeks to respond to my questions. Then on the day of the wedding they were an hour behind schedule and didnt do a third of the things that were in the contract like blocking off the space to skiers and snowboarders and clearing snow off the deck.

    Do Not Trust Them

DO NOT TRUST THEM. The venue pictured above is what you’ll pay for but it’s not where you’ll get married. We booked our wedding at High Camp in late June 2022. Jenna told us that unless there was a late season snow storm or sustained 35 MPH winds we would be fine to have it up there.

In the weeks leading up to our wedding (once they had our money) Mercedes completely changed the narrative about the weather. She very rudely told us it was likely that we would need to move everything to the backup venue at the bottom of the mountain. The day before the wedding we spoke to an employee who told us that they haven’t had enough staff to operate High Camp recently, and that’s why they’ve been leaning into the weather excuse. We asked if this was the case and of course, they said it wasn’t, but still continued to pressure us to move the wedding to back up venue.

It rained for 20 minutes on our wedding day. We begged and pleaded with them to let the rain pass, as the forecast said it would. The end result, we got married on beautiful, calm, sunny day….at the back up venue. The icing on the cake was when they mistakenly deactivated our hotel key cards an hour before the wedding.

I wish we got married anywhere but here. I hope this review prevents others from falling victim to another Palisades Tahoe bait and switch.

    Palisades Tahoe's reply:

    Hello Jon,
We are sorry that you and your new wife were unable to have the High Camp wedding experience. The aerial tram operations have associated risks that may prevent it’s use and therefore access to our mountain top venue, High Camp.

The aerial tram will not operate in unsafe circumstances, which was explained to you during your sales communications, as worded within your wedding contract, was communicated during the planning phase and at your wedding tasting appointment, and was addressed when the weather forecast included your anticipated wedding date. Because of these potential risk factors that are out of anyone’s control, you were also contracted a weather backup plan at the Event Center and at no additional cost.

Your final wedding invoice does not include the aerial tram fee, therefore it does not reflect cost of a wedding at High Camp.

Rain was not the deciding factor to close the tram on the afternoon of your wedding day, but rather it was the lightening storm. Safety is our number one priority and our team reserves the right to make final decisions based on the safety of your guests and our staff.

Our fully staffed team provided you setup concessions and flexibility in the weather policy which has not been offered in the past and will not be offered to future couples. Although the aerial tram began lightening hold earlier in the day, at shortly before 3pm our Mountain Manager deemed it unsafe to operate the aerial tram in the lightening storm. Your guests were then directed to the backup location where there was an indoor ceremony option and an outdoor ceremony option. With lightening in the area that afternoon and evening, the safety call to move your event to the backup location was the right decision for the safety of your guests and our staff.

With regard to the lodging key, this should not have happened and we apologize for the malfunction. This issue has been escalated to the Lodging General Manager to prevent this from happening in the future.

Jon, our team takes your feedback and our experience working with you seriously and as a learning opportunity. We will continue to strive to offer the best experience possible to our guests and staff. We wish you and your new wife a lifetime of love and happiness.

    Pass on High Camp

I was the bride in a recent Palisades wedding. I had an abysmal experience with the team there. They were extremely unhelpful and communication was severely lacking. It took 24+ hours to respond to an email that we sent 72 hours before our wedding and we only received a response once we texted the next day to follow up. The wedding coordinator was extremely combatant. It was a hellish week of waiting and stressful conversations where they never appeared on "our team." We were also locked out of our rooms on wedding day, causing a delay. Forget trying to do a bride & groom cocktail there. Even if you're paying for the most expensive tier of alcohol, anything they deem "specialty cocktail" will run you another $15 per drink on top of the hourly rate you are already paying. The contract certainly did not clearly state that. We felt like we were given the bait and switch on the weather and the possibility of a venue change for a summer wedding. Facts were poorly misrepresented and we would never have booked this venue had we known. It's really a shame as we were so excited to get married there. I found the whole ordeal so frustrating that I'm taking time out of my honeymoon to leave this review. Book High Camp at your own risk and know that a venue change is likely.

    Palisades Tahoe's reply:

Mary & Jon, our team takes your feedback and our experience working with you seriously and as a learning opportunity. We will continue to strive to offer the best experience possible to our guests and staff.
We wish you love and happiness.
