    Most Amazing Venue

I just got married here two weeks ago and it was absolutely everything I could have ever dreamt of.
Nancy, who is the coordinator there, is extremely friendly and helpful and always interested in creating a beautiful day for you. We took the option to rent out the venue for the weekend as there is also housing on site and it was the most perfect weekend. We absolutely loved our experience with Sugarland. The food was delicious and they took care of our desserts as well which were personalized to a request of mine and turned out perfectly.
Will always hold a special place in my heart for that weekend, that location, and the memories.

Everything you could ask for in one place!

We used Sugarland for our wedding reception summer of 2021 (the weather was stormy but cleared up and cooled the temp down so it was perfect temperature even though it was August). The venue is gorgeous and the food was very tasty! It was so convenient for the wedding party to be able to stay in the houses across the street. I highly recommend choosing this for your wedding! Nancy and her staff were wonderful to work with and incredibly they were able to make all the food garlic-free for me (I'm allergic)! She also was able to procure many specific beers and liquors for us!

A comment things going in that I wish I would have known earlier: 1) when you meet with Nancy, be sure that all the details that you discuss is on the quote. There was a minor snafu but she was able to work it out in the moment and I (the bride) didn't know there was an issue to begin with! In hindsight, I should have mentioned that the detail was missing from the quote but I had assumed that she remembered even though she has so many weddings to deal with. 2) They do allow fireworks which was awesome! Be sure that Nancy has added to the contract that they will set them off for you. Day of, the person she said would do it, didn't want to so we had to scramble to find someone to light them off. Thankfully her bar staff came to the rescue!

Overall this place was wonderful in every way possible! A little more organizing/planning better and the event would have been 100% perfect!

PS the sound in the barn is tricky - the people off to the sides of the barn and outside couldn't hear announcements well. You may want to give your DJ a heads up.

    Gorgeous Venue

I can't stress enough how absolutely beautiful this venue was, the grounds are well-maintained, the barn was perfect and had character (not rustic-chic like some barns), the house/cottage matched the theme and were clean. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a barn venue that does it all. We got so many compliments on the venue, it was breathtaking. Nancy was wonderful to work with, super accommodating and understanding of any issues that popped up. They offer to move the ceremony into the barn too in case of inclement weather. The only small catch is that Old Feed Mill is the exclusive caterer of this venue; the food was amazing though and I would recommend them as well for catering, I just thought it'd be worth mentioning for couples who are looking to bring in a caterer/food. Nancy takes care of everything you need and is just the sweetest. I just can't get over how picturesque this venue is. Our wedding party & some guests stayed in the house and cottage and many made the comment that they'd love to just rent those for a week/weekend to get away and enjoy the serenity and views. Note - cost estimate provided with this review is for the grounds/facilities only, not the catering which is more.

Incredible venue, exactly what I had always dreamt of. Effortless elegance are the only words I can use to possibly convey how amazing our wedding was here! Nothing extra is needed to beautify the space, it's gorgeous all on it's own. Nancy was amazing to work with and so incredibly accommodating. A beautiful, rustic venue that lends itself to whatever theme you have in mind.

An amazing venue! It is such a beautiful property and was perfect for our rustic barn wedding. Nancy was great to work with. She is so knowledgable about the process of planning a wedding and other vendors who are familiar with Sugarland, which was very helpful!

Our wedding was held at Sugarland in Arena,WI in July. It was a beautiful setting! We were married under the giant oak tree where the branches reached out and gave shade to our guests. Our reception was held in the newly renovated barn a few steps from the ceremony. The inside of the barn was awesome because there weren't any posts in the way, just a huge open space with rustic chandeliers. The ceiling of the barn was like the bottom of a ship flipped upside down. We were able to decorate the space to our liking and the staff and Nancy were very helpful and great to work with. I would definitely recommend this venue for those brides that like unique spaces with personality! Heidi

We LOVED Sugarland! Last year we first checked out the venue and it was the original dairy barn complete with milk stalls and a hay loft... fast forward one year and the barn has been TOTALLY transformed!! There is no longer a loft, but a beautiful open-barn complete with chandeliers down the length of the barn, windows, and laminate wood floors. We put our head table in front of the large barn-doors and had them open behind us revealing the beautiful landscape and green cornfields that you find in south central WI-- it was perfect. Guests could either hit the dance floor (which we moved to the center of the barn after dinner-- again, in front of the great barn doors), or head outside to our beer garden/ campfire for smores. It's located in the country, so the setting couldn't be more beautiful or romantic... our guests from various backgrounds and locations all loved it.

The Old Feed Mill of Mazomanie is the exclusive caterer of the venue, but we were content with that because they offered our guests a great buffet selection. We had a lot of non-vegetarians, but ironically the favorite dish was the Mushroom strudel (which I admit was my favorite as well)-- you must at least taste-test this one. If you do a taste test, you must also try the cherry-chicken and original pot-roast... so good. I think we paid about $22 per plate, but it was worth it for great quality food. Many guests complimented that it was the best wedding food they had been served and we stayed in the lower-priced buffet options.

The barn also has a bar and an addition that includes new male and female bathrooms, and a kitchen. We had a church ceremony, but they also offer ceremony services in the lawn under a giant oak tree. There is a water-fountain on the lawn, as well as 2 plantation style houses. The smaller cottage is occupied by the owner's, but the larger one is available for rent for the weekend. WONDERFUL place.

We recently had our wedding ceremony and reception at Sugarland and I cannot say enough how perfect the venue was for our dream wedding! Our guests keep telling us how the venue was unlike anything they have ever seen to before and many commented on the "rustic elegance" of the property. The house is perfect, the oak tree for the ceremony is unlike any other, and the barn...AMAZING!

Nancy was so very helpful in getting all of the little details we wanted for our day, down to a custom menu for our dinner (including hot peppers and hot sauce for my groom)! Not to mention, a HUGE thank you to her staff member for letting us borrow his home DVD player when we had a picture slideshow crisis just minutes before our dinner was set to begin.

I would recommend Sugarland to anyone, in an instant, that is looking for the perfect rustic venue in the heart of the Wisconsin River valley!!

    THANK YOU SUGARLAND!!!

If you are looking for an outdoor wedding in Wisconsin this place is perfect. Getting married under the huge tree in the yard is the most breathtaking backdrop you can ask for. They will work with you to make sure every aspect of your big day turns out great. At times there can be some communication problems when doing the planning but if you push through them you will be more than happy.

Sugarland was the ultimate find for my August wedding. It is a gorgeous setting and provides so many options! Getting access to the house for the whole weekend was a total blessing that we definitely took advantage of. The tree was beautiful and the barn was the perfect reception venue.

The food was great, and the pizzas they brought out at the end of the night were a huge hit (definitely do this, especially if people are drinking!). All of the servers were very professional. The rentals were easy to coordinate and most of the set up was done for us.

The only negative I have is that the event coordinator can be a bit tricky to get a hold of, not ideal in the weeks leading up to your wedding! We also had a few miscommunications about the menu, but they were sorted out and there were no issues the day of. Overall I would 100% recommend this venue to others!

While the day was spectacular and amazing, there were a lot of bumpy roads to get there. They will nickel and dime you for all you are worth, so please be prepared for that. Not a lot of the costs are upfront, so they get you that way. We ended up spending another 1,200 plus in costs for things that just were not clear at all. It's worth it if you have the cash, and honestly plan to about double the budget you set. If you are on a tight budget, this is not your place.

We had an outdoor ceremony underneath their big oak tree, and our guests loved the character of the barn as the reception venue. There is also a 3-bedroom house on site that you can use (read: are forced to rent for 2 nights as part of the contract) for getting ready and staying in the night after. The main thing to watch out for is getting nickel-and-dimed by Nancy (Old feed mill owner/event coordinator). We signed a basic contract that included date, barn fee, fee for renting the house for 2 nights, and outdoor ceremony fee. We knew that the catering bill would be ++ so we assumed that all of the service would be included in the catering or in the venue fee. Not so! A month before the wedding she told us for the first time that there would be a dishwashing fee. That same day she also told us that there would be a per person fee for soda and mixers (okay not surprising) but also we would be charged for each bottle of soda used (seems like a double charge). Then, she told us 2 days before the wedding that the venue/catering fee only included 3 hours of work for each server. So we had to pay her an hourly fee for each hour of work they went over, depending on when they clocked out! Our wedding was at 5:30 with dinner at 7, and she said that staff comes in at 4 to start setting up. So basically she only included time for the servers to set up for dinner, not do anything after 7pm! Also we bought our own liquor but underestimated, so part way through the night they brought over supplies from the old feed mill (awesome!). The weird part was when she billed for that, she charged $4 for each beer (so full bar price) but just cost ($20ish) for each of the bottles of liquor. Just try to make sure you talk about these details with her up front and get it IN WRITING so you don't have surprise add-ons to your budget when it's too late to plan another option. The lucky thing is, these aren’t issues that our guests had any clue about!

    Sugarland Barn Weddings's reply:

I am so sorry that Lynn did not fully understand some of the costs. On August 7 three weeks before the event all these costs were stated in an email from her mother and agreed to at that time.
The dishwashing fee was discussed after we found out that she was bringing in dishes from an outside rental company. When this is the case we do have a fee for washing and organizing and meeting the rental company for pick up the following day. Most couples use our china and there is no fee if this is the case. This fee was $.50 per person, far below the industry average for this service.
The bar set up fee covers all refrigeration, beer tappers, ice and ice coolers, drinkware, bar supplies, and garnishes. We do charge for mixers that are used. This is not a double charge.
The family underestimated their need for alcohol. It was fortunate that we were able to supply what we did. However, because this was all last minute we were not able to purchase in volume for the event and so the cost of the beer was not the same as if we would have been able to order specifically for this event. Our restaurant price was 4.50 so they did receive a 11% discount from our bar prices.

For staffing we now allow 4 hours with the catering. This breaks down to 1.5 hours set up, 1.5 hours dinner service, and 1 hour clean up. We do charge an additional fee if the service runs over this time. Some reasons that this could happen are if the couple would like their signiture drinks and appetisers passed which utilizes the servers set up time. Also if the scheduled start time for dinner is delayed this could add to the time servers are there.

This review was very helpful for making sure all costs are explained and agreed to well before the event occurs. We plan on being very conscientious that this miscommunication does not happen again.
