21 Days, and i hate my arms

Mrs. Cohen, on September 20, 2018 at 5:59 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 22

I'm 21 days out from my wedding, and although I'm okay with not losing any weight (my dress actually looks pretty darn great on this plus-sized body of mine), I'm actually REALLY UPSET about my arms. I've had every intention to work on toning up my arms since my dress is strapless and my arms are probably my biggest insecurity, but with working 45+ hours a week in a really stressful job, taking college classes 10 hours a week, dealing with all sorts of unexpected obstacles (ex. car accidents, health issues, etc.), and of course wedding planning, I've not only had very little time to work out, but I'm just quite literally drained and exhausted every day, it takes all I have to change out of my work clothes, let alone go work out.

I'm now freaking out because I already know I'm going to hate all of our wedding photos because of my stupid arms (I hated 85% of our engagement photos for that very reason) and I know I'm going to be super self-conscious about them all day, regardless of how excited I am for the wedding itself.

Does anyone have any tips to tone up arms in 3 weeks that doesn't take more than 20 minutes a day? (That sounds ridiculous, I know, but it doesn't hurt to ask haha). Or at the very least, tips on how to retrain my brain to be okay with my big arms? (Also ridiculous lol, but can't hurt to ask). Thanks!

Have your photographer choose flattering poses. You are your biggest critic. Stay positive and good luck!Smiley heart Smiley smile

I don't have tips for toning up in three weeks! Sorry you are going through this! I went to your profile, and looked at the pictures you have posted (creepy I know, sorry), and I have seen your posts before (I remember the hair trial debacle), and your face is absolutely gorgeous that I would have never guessed that you were insecure about your arms! The picture posted in Where are all my "thicker" brides at? I thought you looked gorgeous seriously your arms were not a thought... your neckline and smile are AMAZING!!! ! I personally don't think you have anything to worry about, but if you really feel self conscious maybe you can practice some poses in the mirror and try and find your favorite, and use it more often... Maybe consider talking to your photographer about it and see if she can pose/frame you in ways the your arms are not so prominent.

Low fat, cardio, any really any arm workouts... if you are doing weights, like curls or press or tricep dips... go for 12-15. Usually what I do is I will have a handful of workouts, like 3-5 moves. And I will do 3 sets of 12-15. So I will run through all 3-5 moves doing 12-15 and then go again and do it 3x in total. I literally grabbed a few random ones from pinterest and I mix it up. These only take me 10-15 minutes and if I do them quickly enough, I am breathing hard at the end. If you can go for a jog or something and only have 20 minutes, do it!

I am a pretty small person but it turns out that my fat all goes straight to my arms and that is literally the last place for it to come off. So I feel like they are too big and don't fit my body. So I am also in the boat of, loving my dress and hating my arms in this dang strapless dress. I don't have any wisdom for retraining your brain but I do agree with the other poster that you are your worst critic and just ask the photographer to help you post to not accentuate them.

Well shucks, you said some really nice things Smiley smile And I don't think it's creepy you went to my profile to see photos lol! Thanks for brightening up my day!

I like your idea of practicing poses in the mirror! Just like you and Haaley (the comment ahead of you) suggested, I think I will talk with my photographer about my insecurities. She's really kind-hearted so I think she'll take my hatred of my arms into consideration when snapping photos all night long

Get some inexpensive dumbbells that are at least 10lbs that you can use every night, alternate exercises (you can look up some easy arm exercises on YouTube) and you can also do simple moves like pushups, planks etc.

i have what I call “farm girl” arms. No matter how much weight I lose they are big. So I learned to embrace it and figure if I’m going to have big arms, they will be big and toned!! I lift heavy and often, and have just accepted it. I’m even wearing a sleeveless dress for my wedding!

Im sure you will look beautiful on your day. Enjoy every minute 💜

Good luck! The other best advice I can give you is if you are ever feeling insecure look into your mans eyes and try and see what he sees because he sees a knockout!! Smiley heart

I can relate to your arm issue. One trick I found is to not stand with my arms tight against my body. This makes your arms look thick. If you hold your arms out just an inch from your body, or even place your hands on your hips, you will make your arms appear more toned & thinner.

So I don’t have a quick-fix for toning, but I have a different input. I looked at the engagement pics you posted and it is so clear how in love you both are. The way he is looking at you and holding you in the pictures shows that he is completely smitten with the woman you are—not a woman with ‘’picture perfect arms’’ or any other version of you. I’m all for being healthy, but I think you are stunning and you are going to look wonderful no matter what!

I can relate. I wish they made more flattering dress styles with modern sleeves, cold-shoulder with lace, or chandelier sleeves.

What about adding a dechatable swag sleeve to your dress. Wear it for either the ceremony or reception. At least you will end up with some photos you will like. But I'm sure will look great on matter what

As much as I hate my arms, I won’t be adding sleeves to my dress haha just can’t picture me wearing a dress with sleeves or even a shawl, but I do like your suggestion Smiley smile

I feel your stress and pain.

When I got engaged, I knew that I needed a long-sleeved gown to hide my arms. Alas, that didn't end up working out so well and I have two wedding dresses - one inexpensive, one super expensive. The expensive WOW gown is sleeveless and has GORGEOUS straps. Everyone tells me that I shouldn't cover them up, and I agree, but there's the issue with my arms.... I've yo-yo'd all of my life and unfortunately, my chest and arms have been the most affected by it. My arms aren't terrible - I've seen so much worse - and people tell me that my arms looks fine - but I will probably always be unhappy with them. I have so much hanging skin/flab when I lift up my arms, and I know it will likely never go away, especially not in 2 weeks. It is what it is at this point. I ordered a beaded jacket and it fits like a glove, but clashes with my dress. Now I'm waiting on a fur scarf to arrive in the mail, which will hopefully do the trick. I am only wearing the expensive dress for my ceremony and some pictures, because my seamstress didn't have enough time to bustle it - and I didn't want to stress her out any moreso than she already is - and the skirt is so huge that I probably couldn't dance it in regardless. So, I'm wearing my cheaper, long-sleeved 40's ispired dress to the reception. This was a long story, but I understand your frustrations.

Grab yourself a set of handled resistance bands or 10 - 15 lb dumbbells and get to work!! There are tons of arm workouts you can do easily at home. Military press, upright rows, front raises, lateral raises, kick backs, curls and dip will help big time....even with only a few weeks to go.

Try planking every day! I try to beat my time from the day before. It is a quick 1-3 minute workout (depending on how strong you are) and its a great way to tone not only your arms but everything!!!
