Bora, Bora.. who's been?

Tara, on October 31, 2019 at 2:00 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 4

My dream destination is Bora, Bora!! I have always wanted to go there and stay in an over the water bungalow. It just looks so beautiful and peaceful! Who's been there? I told my husband I want to renew our vows there, but that won't be for a few years. I just want ideas of where might be good to stay or what's worth doing? Was it worth the time and cost?

We're doing an overwater bungalow on Mo'orea (kind of the middle island between Tahiti and Bora Bora). The cost of the overwater bungalows on Bora Bora and the up charge to get there didn't make since to me after I did a ton of research. The reviews and pictures from Mo'orea matched Bora Bora (some exceeded). I talked to a Tahiti travel guide and he agreed that the up charge to get to Bora Bora was not necessarily worth it unless you were rich and could stay in their absolute best hotel and there isn't much to do on Bora Bora because you have to take a boat any time you want to go shopping or to a restaurant, or anything. The island and water on Mo'orea is rated just as good and it's way cheaper.

I will definitely keep that in mind, good to know! Thanks for sharing. I wonder why there's such a up-charge to go to Bora Bora then?

A big part of it is that you have to take a boat that their staff works on to do anything and they don't want to charge you every time. Then you have to take an extra plane or a long boat ride to get to Bora Bora, and it's considered more exclusive. It's a bit more private than other islands.

Whether it’s “worth it” for you will depend entirely upon what kind of trip you are wanting to have. If you guys are looking for a beautiful destinations to just relax, then Bora Bora may definitely be the right place for you! I will say, there is really not a lot to do there. It is not an exciting destination. So if you are more of an active couple, I probably would not suggest this destination. It IS beautiful though.
