Bridal Show Scam? HELP!

Emily, on March 8, 2017 at 7:23 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 224

Hi all!

I went to a bridal show a few months ago and registered my name and phone number. I got a call today from a company called NHI International saying I won 2 wedding bands, a 3/day 2/night trip to the Caribbean, and champagne flutes. All I have to do is go to a "bridal expo" at the Holiday Inn in my city.

Has anyone every encountered anything like this? I searched them online and they appear to be a real company, but their website is odd. Does anyone know if this is a scam?

Thanks!

Are they selling pans and cookware? I was scammed at a wedding expo by a cookware company with the same prizes

I've only heard of the places that force you to sit through a timeshare presentation and give you an extremely hard sell- like to the point where you feel harassed. There were also really difficult blackout dates to deal with and they tell you when you're going, you don't get to pick (you do get to give them top 3 date choices though).

Yes! They are selling cookware and doing a "cooking show."

It's not a scam, but it's not worth it unless you want those exact items. There are fees involved in the trip and tons of blackout dates, plus you have to buy your own airfare. After all is said and done, it's only a slight savings over just booking the trip and buying the rings/champagne flutes/etc.

I had a similar experience, and I think it might have been the same company. A friend told me these are usually a scam. She "won" free wedding bands, which turned out to be a scam. She's been married almost a year, never got them.

Oh, God, walk away. These companies rely on brides just like you, OP, to think they've gotten something for nothing. There are strings attached, and you probably won because the 23 winners before you hung up the phone. Sorry.

Ugh I was also hit with the cookware scam!

There's always strings attached on these things. As awesome as it would be to win a trip to the Caribbean.

I've attended a couple of bridal expos and always get those calls after. I was interested in going myself but based on the reviews thought it would be more of a headache than anything and that I would still end up paying for something. Even if it just is taxes and airplane tickets.

Good luck if you go, would love to hear about your experience. Haven't been to any yet

    Scam:

    transitive verb

    1

    : deceive, defraud

    2

: to obtain (as money) by a scam

They tell you flat out what your costs would be: basically shipping costs, airfare, taxes etc. Therefore not actually a scam, just a waste of an hour and a half...unless you order the rings and like them, then it's not a waste.

Omg!! We just went to this nhi thing this evening!! Actually just got home. I went to a bridal fair last Sunday and got a call a couple days ago that we won the grand prize and we won the 2night 3 day vacation plus 2 wedding bands and champagne flutes. They said we had to attend a 90minute presentation of some cookware. They also said they were going to do a cooking show to demo their products they said we were not required to buy anything we still got the prizes that they said we would win but we had to go sit through this 90-minute presantion. So I dragged my fiance and he looked them up before hand and everything looked legit. Basically it wasn't a cooking show. Lol we got one bite of chicken. Their product is pretty cool though. Its pretty expensive. The guy then said if we bought their product with no money down today we would get another vacation package in addition to the one we already got just for going. This one is 8days 7nights with 300 locations to choose from. I talked my poor fiance into buying it so we would get the extra vacation package. We also recived out gift cards for the rings and champagne glasses. Also we have to pay shipping and handling for the champagne glasses and for the ring bands so it's not totally free. So will see how legit all this is when we go to use the gift cards and book our trip...

It's legit. They don't make you buy anything but u get the choice of the rings or the trip. If you buy something from them, u get both. But you have to pay your air flight, and the shipping for the flutes.
