Catholic Flower Girls

Liz, on March 17, 2019 at 5:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 24
Our church doesn't allow flower girls to drop anything on the floor. Does anyone have suggestions for what we should have our girls do?

I've been to weddings where they carried a banner, or carried pomander balls

Hand a flower to people in aisle seats. Or instead of Mothers, grandmothers etc getting corsages and the men bouts, have the flower girls give small bouquets or single stems, wrapped in lace and ribbons, to family women in front pews. Either of these is frequently done.

They could have flower girl wands with ribbons to wave.

You could have them just carry a bouquet just like the bridesmaids do.

The month before our wedding a friend of ours had her flower girls bring small bits of baby breath to a vase in front of a statue of Mary. We had already planned to do that with our toss bouquet, so we just had our flower girl bring the small ball of flowers down the aisle smile

I thought about flowers for Mary, but my MIL had opinions about that. I might do it anyway and let her have her opinions. She wanted me to give a portion of my own bouquet, but I'm using artificial flowers and I don't plan to carry a separate bouquet down the aisle.

I went to a wedding where the flower girl carried a magic wand, and the ring bearer shot a little bubble gun. It was so cute.

The church where we had our ceremony did not allow "littering" as they put it in the sanctuary. Our twin boys pulled her down the aisle in a wagon I decorated with flowers and bling.

Pp have mentioned the wands- they’re really cute, and I imagine my nieces thinking they’re princesses.

We were married in a Catholic Church as well, and since they couldn’t toss petals we just didn’t have one. I didn’t see the point. But wands or small bouquets would be cute 😊

A new thing I’ve seen all over Etsy is hoop bouquets. They’re fun but beautiful.

Well then I think a mini bouquet would make them feel special and grown up like the other girls.

We can’t have flower petals thrown in our Catholic Church either. Our flower girl is going to be carrying a kissing ball with flowers that match the bridal bouquets.

Ask your florist! They usually have tons of ideas. When I spoke to mine and told her where I was getting married she said “oh yeah, you can’t throw petals in there so we’ll do a pomander ball”. It helps if your florist has worked with that church.

Our church didn't allow this either, so we had them carry a miniature bouquet of the bridesmaids. Their mom is my sister in law and one of my bridesmaids and they were super excited to carry one like their mommy.

You can also do a wreath, or a cute banner saying Here Comes the Bride.

Our flower children are handing out long stem roses to guests in the aisle!
