Dinner music?

Tranean, on June 15, 2019 at 11:44 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24
I’ve been trying to decide if we should play some type of music or have some type of entertainment during dinner at the reception. I’ve tried to think back on past weddings I’ve been too and I can honestly say I don’t remember if there was music playing in the background or not. What are you’re suggestions/ideas?

Definitely background music! It does a nice job of contributing to the atmosphere. If you're having a DJ they should have lots of suggestions/options to consider.

That’s what I was thinking, maybe a little light jazz. But I figured I’d ask because the only thing I could remember from other receptions was everyone talking lol

Jazz, big bands, contemporary.... It's kind of like "elevator music"; most of us don't pay attention to it when it's there, but notice the silence when it's not. Background music can also help moderate the sounds of all the different table conversations in a big room. It's low enough so people can hear each other at their own table, but kind of like "white noise" that blocks out what's going on in the rest of the room. Smiley winking

I want some light classical music to be playing during dinner and then the party will start after dinner!

We will be having music playing in the background, but aren’t fans of the oldies/Motown and jazz, so we are gonna do 80s/90s power ballads.

I'm doing like some jazz and swing type music low. If people are too quiet while eating, it would be super awkward.

I would for sure have background music playing. It helps in times of silence or minimal talking.
I'm also anticipating some of our guests may even get up and dance if they hear a song they like lol.

We didn't really have a theme but it has evolved now that we both know what looks we are going for and the vibe of the venue. So, since we've kind of landed into an old Hollywood glamour theme, we are selecting old Hollywood classics to play during dinner. Stuff that sets the atmosphere, but isn't something we'd actually dance to.

Think: Casablanca, dancing in the rain, the godfather, etc.

Definitely some music during dinner. Depending on your crowd probably something light. We did music from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. more of the older classic music and then had the upbeat and fun music after dinner.

We did music from the 80s-90s and then as people started to finish the music picked up so that people could start dancing

I’ve been trying to think if there’s a genre of music that I’d really rather not have. But I can’t think of anything really

We are doing soft background music. We want people to be able to talk and after we finish our food we will probably go around and talk too.

We're going to do background music. I'm thinking jazz, maybe with some other chill music mixed in. Have to get that one past FH!
