Getting makeup and hair done for Engagement photos

I'm debating if I should get my makeup and hair done (loose curls nothing crazy) for our engagement photos. We will be using a photo from the shoot for the STDs, and we will be putting some photos up on our wedding website. What did you do?

Have you considered doing it as your trial?

I researched hair and makeup artists that would come to our getting-ready spot on the day of the wedding, because I really wanted to have a relaxed, no-travel morning with my girls. I realized these get booked up way in advance so I wanted to book pretty early (I got engaged 9 months before our wedding date and booked her 8 months out). I wasn't sure if I wanted makeup done at all, as in the past my cousins and I usually do each other's makeup, though I was curious about airbrush makeup and I have sensitive skin that sometimes flares up for no reason, and I think it'll be best for me to have a professional fail-proof makeup plan to avoid stress. Anyway, I booked a trial of hair and makeup (I'll be doing half-up loose curls for my wedding) and even though I felt a little out of my element with super-thick makeup on all day, it came through really nicely in the pictures - even if you do your own make sure you go heavier than normal especially on the eyes and lips! So I killed 2 birds with one stone, got my stylist locked down, and feel so much calmer knowing exactly what my hair and makeup will look like in my pictures.

Damn you're talented. Can I ask, what kind of foundation do you use?

I got my make up and hair professionally done. I am decent at make up but wanted a little extra since we used a photo for our STD.i just did simple curls and simple make up. If you're good at hair and make up though and on a budget, do it yourself :-)

Well, I'm a bit vain and I refuse to let a bad picture of me go public, lol, so I hired my HMUA to do my hair and makeup for my e-pics. I'm glad I did too because we had our pics taken in the snow while it was snowing a lot. My hair and makeup lasted and didn't look terrible. If I had done it, I probably would have looked like a wet dog! Smiley tongue

I last minute decided to get my makeup done for ours, but I didn’t do anything different to my hair than my normal straight down. Glad I got the fake eyelashes though! I think they’re really important in photos.

Thanks girl! Lots and LOTS of practice! I use Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation. It's a water based foundation. Lighter coverage and lighter on the skin. I absolutely love it! I have combination skin. Some oily patches, some dry patches. So this can make finding a foundation difficult. But I love this one!

I went to Sephora to get mine done and the same thing happened! My eyes wouldn’t stop burning and kept watering. Unfortunately I only had an hour before our pictures so I went unsatisfied with how crappy my makeup looked after my eyes watered and the girl just kept reapplying/caking makeup over the black smears. Luckily you can’t tell in our pictures, but I wish I would have just done my own makeup for my own sanity that morning of.

Ours were kind of last minute and we didn’t pay for them so I didn’t get it done. If we planned it better and planned I would probably have gotten my make up done

I had mine done. I never had time for makeup trial for wedding so I was glad I had engagement done. The makeup artist was comfortable, I was happy and I saved an little money.

I got mine done. I have a membership at a day spa, and it basically just cost gratuity, and I wanted to see how it turned out and what I might want for my wedding. I also just wanted pictures with of us with something other than the shimmery nude eyeshadow and pony tail I do every other day! It was fun and I don't regret it!

I got my makeup done and curled my own hair. I wanted to try out my makeup artist before booking her for my wedding. I highly recommend getting at least your makeup done and hair if you can't style it your self.

If you're confident in your abilities to do your own hair and makeup, I'd say do it yourself. However, if you really want to pamper yourself for your STD's, go for it!

We haven't done our engagement session or a STD yet so I don't know what I'm planning to do.

I was going to, but ultimately decided I wanted a more natural look. The dressy look just isn't us, and we will have plenty of those from the wedding. So I'm going to keep my crazy curly hair and do my regular makeup.

A lot of brides have mentioned in other posts having the hair/makeup trial done the morning of the engagement session. However that could be tricky if your photographer is starting super early.
