Greece July 2021 Honeymoon?

Sydney, on December 26, 2020 at 4:46 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9
Hi friends!

I’m obviously aware that we are still in the middle of a global pandemic but am still trying to have as many plans in place for any situation we may see in the next few months! We are planning on a Greece honeymoon in late July 2021 so I have a two-part question.
1. What are your thoughts on what travel will be like in July? Should we plan out our Greece honeymoon or opt for a mini-moon stateside?
2. If you’ve been to Greece, what suggestions do you have? We’ll be spending most of our time on the islands. We’ll probably avoid Mykonos since we are pretty laid back. Whether we go this year or next year I want to get an idea of things that you enjoyed doing!
Thanks! 😊

International travel will not be the same if even allowed by then. I would personally put it off until 2022... as we ended up doing a mini moon here in the states and doing Europe in 2022 now. It sucks, but we want the full experience and to be safe.

Greece may let people in by July. They had a very lax policy up until October this year. But of course make plans with caution.
Honestly, I loved Athens and preferred it to the islands, but I also love ancient Greece and staying in the city was amazing. Depends on what you like to do. Santorini is nice, stay in Fira less crowded and you can access the whole island from here. Eat at Selene (amazing). Crete and Rhodes have great ruins (bucket list). All islands have nice beaches so I would compare flights and hotels to get the right mix. They are easy to fly to or take the overnight ferry. Greece is absolutely amazing and the food and culture are wonderful.
Alternatively, you could consider Turkey, same islands, extremely friendly people, great food, ancient history. The country has also been open to American travelers the entirety of the pandemic.

Agree with the pp about absolutely not booking anything that is not 100% refundable.... Personally, I wouldn't make plans for international travel this year. Even if vaccines truly change the game, I think it's going to take a while for things to return to any sense of a new normal. (We were supposed to go to Ireland this past June.... Luckily, because the airline cancelled all flights out of LA, we eventually got a full refund for the flights (it took months...), but we currently have "credits" at several hotels and B&Bs.... Hopefully, we'll get to use them one day....) I'd make domestic plans for the coming year and dream of an international trip when things are stable and predictably better.

We are getting married / honeymoon in July also and we wanted to travel out of the country but I don’t think it’s a good idea. Better go plan in the states In case things go on another lock down or better to re schedule, etc...

Santorini is AMAZING!! I went last year and it absolutely took my breath away! Also, my friend went this year with her partner and they went to restaurants and enjoyed their hotel stay!

Our wedding is in June 2021 and we proceeded with booking our honeymoon in Maldives. We made sure to choose a resort that is refundable up until closer to the date of the trip. I think if you do the same, you’ll be ok. Greece is a lovely destination for a honeymoon. Santorini is stunning and we really enjoyed our trip there a few years ago.

I am attempting to go to Greece in June! As long as there are no travel restrictions and the let us in we will be going! Getting travel insurance to make sure it is 100% refundable!
