Hair and makeup

Yana, on June 17, 2019 at 11:51 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 18

Hey future brides,

Do you prefer to go get your hair done at a salon or have the stylist come to you (your house, bridal suite at venue, hotel, etc)... Trying to figure out the best options! Hair / makeup artists inspo and recommendations (in New York) are encouraged!

I would much prefer for them to come to me. I wouldn't have hired a HMUA if I, and my entire bridal party, had to travel to them.

We are going to the salon. There's more space there, more girls can be done at the same time, and they are providing my requested food and drinks (at cost, I'll pay for them but then I don't need to worry about ordering or picking anything up, it's great).

They also had an additional fee per service to travel to the space, so it saves us a little money to have the salon experience.

I think it depends on how many people you have. It was just m, my daughter and my mom so I wanted them to come to us but for larger bridal parties it’s fun to go to a salon.

I am having my hair person come to us, but there is only me, my mom and 3 girls. So we have a smaller party. I think it depends on the size of your bridal party as to whether it's easier for the bridal party to go to the salon or for them to come to you.

Hmm yes I agree with everyone. It's just me and my 3 bridesmaids; both our mothers have short hair and won't be doing anything fancy with their hair for the big day. I plan on staying in a hotel int he are for the day of and i have my bridal suite for a few hours before the ceremony so I'm trying to figure out where is best... I also want to do photo shoot before the ceremony (and yes the groom will see me in my dress before the actual wedding but i don't think this is bad luck! we've been together for 10 years so if it wasn't meant to be by now i'm sure seeing me before we walk down the aisle wont jinx us!)

My hair and makeup team will come to me. I'll be getting ready at my parents house and they have enough space for everyone. I don't really feel like being in a salon.

    Which part of NY?

I have mine coming to us. It's just me and 3 girls but 2 of them work night shift with me and we were worried that they would not be able to get the night before off. I got lucky finding someone though. One of my bridesmaids was checking around on pricing and availability and she had the wrong location 🤣 I couldn't stop laughing when we realized it. I did some quick, local searches that weren't terribly far from the venue incase we had to go there and found someone within the week. I actually have my first trial today!

    Angerra,

We live in Brooklyn but the wedding is in Staten Island.

Thanks to the handy timer on wedding wire i see my wedding is 125 days away (OMG)

So far I've only booked my venue (includes ceremony, food, alcohol), picked out my invitations and found my wedding dress... so much more to do!

It's just me, my sister (MOH) and my mom for hair. The stylist can't take the whole day off to come to us for just 3 people. We are going to the salon and having 1 stylist each so we will be done in about an hour. We have a very tight timeline. Then we will go home and my makeup artist will meet us at home. She doesn't work at a salon so coming to us is no big deal. I'm trying to be really flexible because I already had people flake on me for hair and makeup.

Lauren, so annoying when you are counting on someone and they flake on you! but don't worry! everything will work out for your big day Smiley smile

I'm considering going to a salon in the AM for hair and having a MUA come to me.

Thanks for the info, makes more sense this way as I also don't have a big bridal party

My original girl for makeup is pregnant and due in September right before my wedding. She is a close family friend to my FH so I thought I would give her a chance. She might have a newborn-1 month old baby at the time, I have a lot of babies in my family and I know labor/delivery can go all different ways. What if she isn't well enough to come do my makeup? What if the baby is sick and needs her? I didn't want to put that pressure on her or myself so I declined. My FH's cousin was supposed to do my hair but flaked saying that it would be an inconvenience because she also had to get ready. Smiley amazing I have found 2 new vendors that are not related to me or FH and were recommended by people in that field so hopefully that takes care of all the drama.

Wow yeah a pregnant or new mother has a lot going on; you shouldn't risk it. Your FH's cousin is being selfish... it's your day not hers! Sometimes it's best to avoid family / friends for your wedding and get a professional to avoid these kinds of situations

We would have loved to have them come to us - we had the time and space - but it would have cost nearly double for that to happen. Thankfully the salon we went to was right next door to our hotel (which was attached to our reception venue, and a 5 minute drive from the ceremony venue) so it worked out just fine.

We are traveling to the salon. It is my normal salon that I've gone to for years. The owner said she can send people to us, but she can be far more flexible with the price if we travel, and she can allocate more staff and even jump in herself if need be. It's about 20 minutes between the salon and venue, so it isn't bad. Then we have the bridal suite at the venue to get dressed and such.
