Kids at the Wedding, entertainment?

Kim, on August 22, 2019 at 11:21 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 19
Hello! For those of you who are having / who had kids at the wedding, did you provide / are you providing some sort of entertainment (for example activity books) for them? Do you think they will be okay without? Is it necessary?

I don't think it's necessary, but I think it's a nice gesture. I only have 5 kids coming so I'm making up little boxes for them to sit at their table. Kid friendly snacks, toys, and coloring books. My little cousin HATES weddings, so I want him to have a good time and not be nagging his mother (my best friend) to leave early.

Totally unnecessary. I provided coloring pages & crayons, only because I got them on sale. Hardly any of them got used. Most kids just want to dance at weddings. And the ones that don't, parents usually bring some form of entertainment for them (like a tablet).

We had a kids room at our venue (included in the price of the venue was the room with bean bags & a TV & a Wii) but we hired an additional professional nanny service to hangout in the room. Our venue wasn't safe for kids to wander unattended. The kids room was 100% optional and we sent out insert cards talking about that & the kids menu to families with kids under 10. We sat kids by their parents, and got high chairs for kids that needed them. We had coloring books in the kids room too.

Wow! Our venue does not have a room like that for sure. Did you have a lot of kids?

We invited 20 guests under 18 but anticipated less. We had 8 kids 10 and under and two guests between 11-20. Our vendors actually ate dinner in there so it was a nice extra use of the space.

I am totally debating about this because this is what I think is going to happen anyway. I am worrying about entertaining kids but I may just be worrying about nothing.

We only had children in our wedding party at the wedding and all of them were part of one family so they just sat with their parents and the nanny. If you are having a bunch of them then maybe have a kids table. At my brother's wedding a few months ago, they had a kids table and they provided coloring books with crayons, puzzles and other kid friendly games. it gave them something fun to do. This worked well for them since most of the children are very well behaved but if you have really rowdy children attending then it might not work as well.

If I were to provide entertainment, this is what I plan to do. Did those get used? We are 2 weeks out! Stressing over the small things! Lol

I went to a wedding where they provided wedding themed activity books for the kids along with crayons. Though I don't think it's a must have. But I did think it was a nice touch. I believe she got them off etsy.

We're only expecting 3 kids (FG and RBs), so I'm making them each their own goody bags with snacks, small toys, and activity books.

Yes actually mine got used. I had a whole game table at my wedding (a table that had various board games and whatever else) along with the coloring book sets for kids and at the end of the night I definitely saw I only had a few of the books left. I definitely saw the kids play with some of the Jenga and monkey in the barrel, etc games I had. But the books for the most part I got on sale from Oriental trading. These ones:

You can even write your names and the wedding date inside.

Yupp. I'm setting up a whole kid's corner so they have their own little space to play and make a mess while the adults can make their own mess on the dance floor lol I'll have a coloring area, toys (blocks, legos, trucks), a table where they can decorate cookies, cupcakes and candy, and with any luck someone will give up their room for a bit so we an eventually take the kids inside and let them watch a movie or something. I'm also getting nannies to take care of the kids

Could you list everything you had at the game table? I really want to do this, but I'm having a hard time thinking of exactly what kind of games and activities would be best. I feel like it needs to occupy as many little hands and minds as possible, but not be too complicated or messy.

Also, I have over 70 children on my guest list LOL

I had a dozen kids. And I noticed they were into the Jenga and monkey in a barrel games. I guess because Jenga look like building blocks they can use. I had a lot of boxed trivia which was probably a mistake I didn't really see anyone use that aha I somehow thought people would want to play with them at their tables perhaps since it was easy and fun stuff like WHAT DO YOU MEME aha. But that's ok, I kept all those for myself. But be wary that these items may get lost or you won't see them after the wedding aha. I definitely didn't see any of the Jenga left and what not. But I got them at Dollar tree so I didn't really spend all that much, it's ok.

Yes whatever I go with I will get cheap to not worry about if it gets destroyed. I'm thinking regular decks of cards for like go fish and stuff? Maybe encouraging card houses, or would that be too messy? Uno? I like the Jenga idea.. I'm wondering if I can find like lincoln logs or something else buildy. Do you think twister would be a good idea??

I want to have enough stuff to keep some kids busy, but I don't want kids fighting over stuff or having melt downs because of the activities I provide. I know a lot of kids will dance and lots of them will leave earlyish, but I think activities would really help!!
