Late Night Snack - worth it?

Ann, on August 22, 2019 at 12:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
We are having a cocktail hour with 4 different apps from 6:30-7:30, followed by dinner at 7:45, then cake at 9. Our reception ends at midnight. Do you think it is worth it to offer a late night snack at 10:30 or 11? If so, how much do you think I should order? (We were thinking pizza, so I figured 1 slice per person for 75% of guests.)

I think its do-able! Especially if you know alot of people will stay. We are having our cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 then dinner, dancing, cake in between, and then late-night pizza at 10:00/10:30 then the night will end around 11:30. I love the idea of a late night snack!

For us, it wasn't necessary. Our ceremony got delayed so our cocktail hour was 6:30-7:15 with 4 passed apps and a stationary app, guests sat to a salad then had dinner around 7:45. We cut the cake around 8:30. Our late night snack came out around 9:30 (mini hot dogs), a couple people took them but it wasn't needed because everyone was drinking a lot & didn't need extra food!

See, I'm not sure how long people are going to stay....about 40% of our guests are either 1.5 hrs away and/or are 60+. I don't see them sticking around until midnight....but then again, I feel nervous to assume that many people will leave by 11.

If this is the case, I'd probably skip the late nigh snack!

I'd say only order it if you can do a small order and can afford it. I know I get hungry when I'm drinking and it helps sober people up but I also don't like wasting food or money (nor do I want my host to).

My daughter and son-in-law included a late-night snack and they were a huge hit - we had pretzel bites with cheese and stone-ground mustard, and then the chefs had a station for grilled cheese bites and tomato-soup shooters.

As a guest I’ve always loved late night snacks so we had Philly Soft Pretzels and donut holes. We also left bags out for those who’d want to take them home.
