Necessary or Not: Ceremony Programs?

Kelly, on February 19, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 141

Are you providing programs to help your guests follow along during the wedding ceremony? Or do you think they’re a waste of paper?

What’s your stance on ceremony programs? Necessary or not?

Not necessary for us - especially considering our ceremony won't last longer than 30 minutes, and our reception takes place at the same location.

Not necessary, and probably a waste of money/paper. We are however considering doing them in the form of fans, because our ceremony will be outdoors in the summer. This will all depend on budget though.

Not necessary, people who came to your wedding don't need to know minute by minute how things are gonna go. You came so you're gonna sit until it's over and not complain about the time it takes.

Totally not necessary, but we did them. Cost us like $5 at Office Depot to print. Since our readings and music weren't the "standard" we wanted to include the info, and also wanted to do a small "in memory" section. But programs are 100% not necessary! Nice, not necessary.

We will have this style of paper fan with an image I put together, but not for the purpose of the program. I made them solely as fans because we are getting married on the beach in May in Florida at 3:30 in the afternoon.

I feel like programs are only a necessity if you'll have a religious or cultural aspect to your ceremony that not all of your guests are familiar with.

I wasn't going to do programs, but my church said it was a must to have them so people could follow along. We just printed them on regular paper, nothing fancy! I wouldn't have done it I do think it's a waste of money, but I also love reading them when I attend a wedding and I'm waiting for it to begin.

Nope. Ours will be very short, sweet and to the point. The only “extra” we are doing is a sand ceremony and/or possibly the candle. We’re hoping for 30 minutes or less. We will have a welcome sign with the address to the reception hall though. It’s just a few blocks away but most of our guests haven’t been there and I imagine none will come with invitation in hand.

Good point, Katelyn! I also feel like most people are having short ceremonies these days, so no need to lay it all out!

Definitely not necessary...however my love for graphic design and print material will want me to create them just for fun, lol. So we will most likely have them.

Can be cute but definitely not necessary! Especially since they will only end up in the trash.
