Engagement pictures are perfect for save the dates and your wedding website, or even just as an opportunity to dress up and take professional photos! Are engagement pictures a “must have” for you? Or are they not a necessary part of your wedding planning?

What do you think? Are engagement pictures necessary or not?

I don't think they're necessarily a necessity, but man am I sure glad we had ours done!

I think they are fun, but not a necessity. We did them, but I've seen plenty of cute save the dates with regular selfies/pictures on them.

Necessity. They help you get used to being in front of the camera. They capture such a short moment of time. I wanted those pictures to show our love through time.

For us this was necessary. The ability to enjoy our photographer's company was almost as important to me as the quality of her wok. If she was too bosy or snippy then our whole day would have a negative tone.

That makes a lot of sense! I can see a lot of couples using engagement pics as an opportunity to test run their photographer!

Completely unnecessary for me. It adds strain to my budget, I hate being the center of attention and it can lack personal touch.

For us they were absolutely necessary! So necessary we did two shoots lol. Our photographer included them in his package as a way for us to get to know him, get comfortable, and to know how he works. It was the best thing ever because the day of, we were all relaxed and had a great time.

Had we needed to pay additional fees for them? Maybe we wouldn't have done them, but because they were a part of the package, we were thrilled we did them.

I had fun doing our engagement photos. They were a necessity for us, because we need some professional photos for our save the dates. Also we didn't have professional pictures of just us. They were included in our photography package, so we did it. I am happy that we did it.

I don't think they are necessary but I'm glad we got them. We weren't going to get engagements taken but our photographer includes them in all of her packages. We didn't have very many nice photos of the two of us so now that we have the engagements I'm happy that it worked out that way.

Yes! It's a chance to see how your photographer photographs you. Also, when else do you have an opportunity to have professional pictures done multiple times in a year?! We had anniversary photos done in September after we got engaged and we had engagement photos done in May.

Not necessarily a necessity, but why not capture all of the excitement as often as you can? I'm definitely glad we are getting engagement pictures done - they will be treasured always!

You took two shoots? That's so neat! Were they with the same photographer at different places or what?

I am in between considering we have completely changed our plans and are now just going to the courthouse. I am not sure if they're necessary now but I wouldn't mind doing them.

Not needed at all, but I can see the appeal of getting to know your photographer a little better before the big day. I wish we had a little more time with ours, just to be more comfortable in front of the camera.

I remember my FMIL and FSIL asking me why we needed to get engagement pictures done. Um, because I want them? Lol! Definitely more of a want than a need, but I’m extremely glad we got them done! We hardly had any nice pictures of us together, and now we have a ton. ❤️

No necessary but we did them. They came with our photo package along with a bridal shoot (which I am dreading, I hate taking pictures).

We have never taken professional photos together so I have a feeling we will need "practice" so we aren't so awkward on the wedding day. Plus it's a good chance to get to know our photographer better!

Yep! We scheduled our first one and the weather ended up being unruly - very cold, windy, heavy rain. We had a great shoot, but had to last minute change our location from Lincoln Park Zoo to the Field Museum. He offered to do a second shoot once the weather was nicer since his favorite place to shoot is the zoo. So naturally we agreed lol
