Just Said Yes August 2019

So stressed out.. 😭

Ceda, on August 20, 2019 at 8:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 23
So my ceremony is going to be at a chapel, they do everything, the venue is beautiful, no problem there. But my "reception" is going to be a pool party and I'm planning on serving sandwich wraps, fruits and veggies, cake and refreshments.. well, my sister's keep yelling at me telling me I can't feed my guest sandwiches and that I should be serving meat (bbq). I'm expecting around 60 people and it's just not in my budget with the expense of everything else. Am I wrong? Should I look into getting some other type of food?

What time is your reception? For an evening meal it’s probably not enough food but for an earlier casual reception I think it’s fine.

It's at 6pm.. I didn't want to go too crazy because I am having a pool party I wanted to do more finger foods or things that are easier to eat.

We are having everything at 2pm and serving sandwiches, fruits, and veggies (and cake!!) If your sister wants more, why cant she pay for it? If it's enough for you and fh, then it's enough. If it's not enough for her, she can pay for it or be s.o.l.

Can you add some things? Maybe more small appetizer type things like cheese and charcuterie, mini meatballs, chips and salsa etc?

My family has been stressing me out so much it honestly makes me regret doing a big wedding. They have complained about the date, the location, the food I'm planning on having... Everything! I just want to give up.

This is a good idea and I will definitely look into getting more sides or apps. Thank you.

The fact that they are sandwich wraps kind of kicks it up a notch. Since it’s a casual pool party, I don’t think it’s so terrible to serve sandwiches. But I do think that adding wings would be helpful. Those don’t cost very much for a few large platters.

If you did have volunteers to do the grill, chicken is cheap. Like seriously inexpensive. Chicken thighs and drums are great. Put them in the oven after the grill to avoid any uncooked meat. Let them bake with the bbq sauce.

I don't have any volunteers... So it would be all on me and the FH. So instead of trying to cook for 60 people I want us to be able to enjoy the day... I'm already worried that I'll be running around and I won't be able to spend time with my FH.

Since it is dinner time, filling foods are good— a little bulk is good (especially if there is drinking!). Do you have meat-y wraps ? For my shower we had chicken caesar wraps, veggie wraps, and roast beef sandwiches (like a big hoagie sliced into individual pieces) <— that was a HUGE hit.
People tend to prefer hot food for dinner, but as long as they have ENOUGH food, that’s whats most important. But, if possible to add some warm snacks, it’d probably go a long way. I like PP’s wings idea (I picture them in a tin with stereo/chafing dish— simple set up but nice and warm!), or something like the but maybe pulled pork or chicken with rolls and/or slaw on the side for a hot sandwich option. Something low maintenance but filling.

I think youre right, with a causal pool party you’ll have a lot of just nibblers. But some people will be eaters, and after activity like swimming, people will probably start getting hungry/snacky Smiley smile ...carbs (in addition to meat) are always a good solution for that ! So id consider chips & dips as an add on to the fruit & veg (my wedding had a chip and dip station that people went nutty for!)

I understand. Like pp's said adding another side or an appetizer or two can help. A simple pasta salad could be bought or made the day before. Don't overwhelm yourself. Tell your sister you simply don't have the funds to cater a formal dinner.

Ceda, you have hit on an important point and trust me, I am trying to add more stress. You need to be a bride, your groom needs to be a groom and NOT be waiting on people!! Is there ANY WAY to have anyone help you? If not, try to have AS MUCH as possible done beforehand. Other premade things could be wings or heavy apps you you could have delivered? The more meaty wraps you can serve will be better as people will be expecting food at a 6pm wedding.

    Good luck!!!

Aw, that's awful they're giving you a hard time about this! Its your wedding not theirs. If they think you should have BBQ then they should pitch in and pay or offer to cook. You can serve whatever you want! I hope this helps 😊

I know your sister is trying to help but you have to stick to your budget. Maybe you can ask people if they would like to bring a dish. I think keeping simple is better.

I think you wedding sounds fun and stress free.

If you can budget some side dishes, then do it, if not, don't.

    It's going to be great

Girl go hit up Costco, they have TONS of yummy snacky foods people would devour. They’re the king of party platters, their 7 layer dip is to die for. You don’t have to cook for dinner time, just bring more food.

We are having our reception at a pool club and everyone in my family is ridiculously stoked. Maybe you can just tell your family not to come and my fabulous clan can fill in for them? I promise they will LOVE eating your sandwiches, they'll toast to your health, prosperity, and future.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this :-( As long as you have something for your guests to eat, you've done your job! Do not add more stress to your day and don't let them bring you down. You're going to have a great wedding!!
