When did you first take your dress in for alterations?

Tina, on June 16, 2019 at 8:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

Just seeing what the general time frame is for alterations? I just want to get my dress shortened and maybe add a bustle. How many months before did you/are you taking your dress in to get first alterations?

I took mine in the first weekend of June for my wedding the first weekend of August. It's due to be done in about another week. I wanted to give it plenty of time!

I had my first alteration 7 weeks before my wedding. My second 4 weeks before the wedding and last one a week before. I was loosing weight without wanting too towards the end so that’s why I had them so close to the wedding.

I had my first fitting last month for my September wedding. I asked the shop if it was too early but they said they would rather get started early.

I have my first fitting on Tuesday. My wedding is October 17th. I think 3-4 monts for the first fitting and your seamstress will let you know how much needs to be done.

I didn't think i wanted to do much for my alterations either but i went ahead and took my dress in about 6 months before hand. I wanted to meet with my seamstress and make sure i had one i liked in plenty of time.
Turns out i needed more alterations than i thought and ive since had several apts.

But if your sure you only need a few simple alterations ive heard 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding is typical.

Our wedding is 8/17, I go for my first appointment on 6/28, and then will have another fitting the end of July, and a final fitting the week before the wedding.

Thank you ladies! Sounds like 2-3 months max is good so I have plenty of time! I just wish my wedding was less than nine months away. Cannae wait!

Our wedding is in December so I’m taking my dress to be altered in November. We’re having a local tailor to do them because they are way cheaper and can do it with me that day.

I live out of state and I had to fly into NC to get my dress altered 3 months before the wedding and had my final fitting on the Wednesday before for my Saturday wedding.

I'm probably late lol. I'm taking my gown for alterations on July 5th for my August 10th wedding. I'm getting my alterations done where my wedding will be; which is 2.5hrs from my house. I don't have time to go back and forth a bunch.

Thankfully, my gown fit pretty perfectly! I only need the straps shortened, bust taken in, and a bustle.

I bought my dress at 19 months and had alterations done at 14 months (bustle, cap sleeves, hem, and bra inserts). I’ll take it in again in August to get a final fitting before I mail it out of state for the wedding.

My first fitting is July 13th for my Sept 14th wedding (I did tell them my wedding is Sept 7th-don’t judge me I worked in a bridal salon before and saw some pretty awful things lol)

I'm glad you posted this because I was curious myself. I just paid my dress off and I will be picking it up on Saturday July 6th from the bridal salon. I plan on trying to get an appt with my seamstress that weekend or the following to start alterations. i just need a bustle and some altering on the bust. My wedding is October 13th and I plan on having it to the seamstress by mid July. (I work most saturdays and monday-friday 830-5 so my options are very limited. My seamstress is super easy going and will hang onto my dress until a few days before the wedding so I don't have to store it which is nice as well.

I just took mine in June 1st! My wedding isn't until October 12th, but I'm having bridal portraits done in August so I had to have it wedding ready early. I think 2 months is safe. I'd rather have it ready early than anxiously waiting!
