Being that the wedding season is quite intense in the fall and early winter I'd wait until the 6 week mark. I know you are excited to see the pictures but I'm sure the wait will be worth it!

I am in the same boat but I have been waiting almost 11 weeks, my contract said 8-10 weeks!! I understand we are in the prime wedding season but I am about to flip out on my photo/videographer he keeps giving me excuses. Today is the last day for me to wait & then I will fight the charges on my card in which I paid him. If your contract says 4-6 weeks you will need to wait before contacting and asking where they are unfortunately.

Wait until after 6 weeks. Not all photographers will include sneak peeks (unless it's in your contract, I wouldn't expect them) and with it being the end of the heavy wedding season, many photographers are super busy. Ours had initially said 3-4 weeks and we got the full set around week 5. Just relax, and wait it out - it's better to have a short delay and WONDERFUL pictures than get them back quickly and have them be "half great," you know?

After the 6th week is up I would say call him within a few days. Don't let it linger too long because you think you're being impatient and don't want to bug him. You are paying him for a service and should get what was in the contract.

Trust me I know it's super hard to wait but I'd wait until that 6 week mark before you reach out.

Ours said 10 weeks, so I don't expect them until after Christmas. I was hoping it would be before, but she has been so busy, I know that it will not be early. We did get a sneak peek, and she was kind enough to Facetime with me and let me pick a few for our Christmas cards.
Since he kind of gave you that hope that it would be sooner, I would reach out to them and ask how it's going and for a timeline. Maybe use the premise that you want to do Christmas cards and see if that helps to speed things along.
Best of luck to you!

I'd call a few days after the 6 week mark. Given what's in your contract and the fact that you haven't heard anything, it's perfectly reasonable to reach out and ask for an update.
My photographer verbally said 4-6 weeks at the wedding, though nothing was stated in the contract. We've had to keep up with her, as we're now 2 and a half months after the wedding. We're finally getting pictures on Monday. I totally get being impatient though.

Have you contacted them to ask? I would just call and very sweetly say something like: "Hi, I know it says 4-6 weeks, but I ams sooo excited so I wanted to see when I could expect them?"

I wouldn't worry, he could just be busy with the holidays! After 6 weeks email him and if he doesn't answer after a week, email him again.

When to reach out yo photographer?
My wedding was on 11/4. In my contract with my photographer it said 4-6 weeks until I get the photos. It’s been almost 5 weeks and nothing has happened. Not even any sneak peeks. I know to at least wait until after week 6 but how soon after should I start worrying and reach out to them? During the wedding he said “4-6 weeks but it will probably be even sooner than that” so I guess that got my hopes up but I’m so inpatient!!
