29 Feb, 2020The story of our wedding
Like any good millennial couple, Ben and Anna met online through the dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel. Anna's first foray into online dating, she was incredibly skeptical. However, Anna was caught by surprise when she received a message with the question, "If you put a werewolf on the moon, are they always a werewolf, never a werewolf, or sometimes a werewolf?" Little did he know, Ben hit the nail on the head with that question--philosophy, humor, and a potential Harry Potter reference, all in one question?
Anna couldn't help but respond, and soon after, Ben asked Anna out on their First Date on May, 1, 2018. On that day in May, the couple met for the first time over tacos, guac, and queso. The date was easy, fun, and tinged with a few excited nerves. Over the last year and a half, our relationship continues to bring ease, fun, and excitement--not to mention queso--to our lives.
Ben proposed on Anna's birthday, July 4, using Anna's birthday as a cover to bring all our family members together. Anna and Ben quickly identified Leap Day 2020 as their desired wedding date, and they began planning immediately! They chose a winter wedding because both of them run hot-natured, and they couldn't imagine waiting until the end of 2020 to get married in the late fall or early winter. The primary color was plum due to a phrase that Ben always tells Anna, "whatever pleases you tickles me plum to death."
Continue reading »Their overall aesthetic channeled wintery fantasy and magic, as both Ben and Anna love fantasy and sci-fi books and movies. Ben's favorite moment of the wedding was walking down the aisle after being pronounced husband and wife, sealing it with kissing, and dancing out to Hall and Oates, 'You Make My Dreams Come True." Anna's favorite memory was the moment the doors opened to walk down the aisle and seeing the moment Ben saw her in her dress the first time, while they both grinned and started sobbing. Some special elements of the ceremony included Anna's brother serving as the officiant, Anna and Ben's niece and nephew as our flower girl and ring bearer, and foregrounding the ceremony in their values of social justice and equity. You may also notice a stuffed narwhal making appearances throughout photos; this is a silly transition between Anna's maternal cousins. At their wedding, each cousin receives a stuffed animal to toss rather than their bridal bouquet.
