11 Aug, 2018The story of our wedding
I manage marketing for Abby Sparks Jewelry, my husband Ben is an associate at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck. We live in Denver and met in Portland, OR in 2013. A friend of his was looking for a roommate and a friend of mine responded to the ad and moved in (they are now married, too). The first time we met, I was in a relationship and Ben told his friend to "let him know" when I was single. I was single for all of two days when Ben magically showed up at a bar I was at with mutual friends.
We had a beautiful garden party themed wedding at a 19th century historic mansion. It was a classic venue, but our wedding was all about little meaningful details that made us happy and felt super personal. We had an artist create custom illustrated portrait of us and our cat for wedding invitations. You could barely see them, but I wore Man Repeller cactus heels under my dress. My mom walked me down the aisle in an amazing woman's tuxedo. Our officiant was a retired Supreme Court judge that my husband clerked for after graduating from law school. For dessert, my husband and I personally brought a tray of macaroons to each table so we would have a chance to chat with all of our guests. Everything just felt like we were putting our own spin on it. And the night ended in a dance party with glow sticks. It was all about celebrating the things that we love as a couple, and we wanted the day to feel like us. When you look at the photos you'll see that that means a lot of love and a LOT of laughter. The color palette and aesthetic was minimal and chic: forest green, white, and unfussy.
