25 Sep, 2021The story of our wedding
Let me start out by saying this might not look or sound like the most glamorous of engagement/wedding stories but it means EVERYTHING to Sean and I.
Backstory...Sean and I have "known" each other since roughly 1994. We grew up in the same small town and lived a literal block from one another for nearly 17 years, but didn't really pay attention to one another until many, many years later. Sean is the brother of my best friends younger sisters husband...yes you read that correctly, and our paths always kind of crossed but not really until the summer of 2017.
I vividly remember him from a party at his brothers home that was being thrown by my best friend for her husband (crazy 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon kind of stuff), and I remember seeing him and thinking...damnnnn Seany K looks OKAYYYYYYYY(wink wink). So in true 2017 fashion a few weeks later we started chatting via social media. We kept the conversation pretty casual with a little flirting thrown in until one weekend I was invited to a girls night at his brothers and asked him to meet me there...and he did..walked right into the lioness den!!!! BEST NIGHT EVER...I completely abandoned my girls (they understood we had been friends for over 20 years at this point) and sat on the front steps until the weeee hours of the morning talking about EVERYTHING. Needless to say our relationship took off rather quickly from that point on.
Continue reading »Fast forward to October of 2019 Sean, my son and myself were on a two week vacation in Spain and Sean and I were discussing our "Spain tattoos" (we get matching travel tattoos). I decided I wanted to get his initials in morse code but he was on the fence about it so we went back to our AirBnB to eat and chill. While sitting on the couch chatting about tattoos Sean nonchalantly asked my son to grab a box out of his suit case...confused but not really thinking much about it I asked what was in the box at which point Sean said I would happily get your initial in morse code however, I don't want JLS (maiden initials) I want JLK (married initials) will you marry me?? Queue tears and joyous laughter, needles to say the next week or so in Spain was a magical fairytale.
Shortly after our return home from Spain we began planning our wedding. We decided on a 2 year engagement, no rhyme or reason, just thought we were dating for two why not be engaged for 2 and I'm so glad we waited because you know COVID!!! We decided on a very small wedding, sans wedding party, we are a bit older than your average couple so we just wanted to be as low key and low stress as possible. We really just wanted to share in our day with our closest friends and family and celebrate finding each other and finding love.
We found our venue very quickly and it set the stage for what was the the most magical day either of us could have imagined. Porta in Asbury was literally everything we could have asked for and more.
We had the most magical day filled with smiles, laughter, a few tears (happy and sad) and TONS of LOVE and we would not change one single thing about our wedding or the story that lead us to it.
