27 Sep, 2019The story of our wedding
I walked into the barn where I first met my (now) husband and was met with a big banner that said: "Will You Marry Me?". About three and one-half years before that day I met Ty in that same barn. Quiet farmer helping my step brother build a fence on the property. He caught my eye and a week later he asked for my number at a bonfire. The next weekend I made him my famous tater tot casserole and we sat in the living room drinking wine and beer and talked until the early morning hours. We knew. We've always celebrated our first date as our anniversary because that's when we were sure.
Ty is a dairy farmer and I was a girly girl and nobody expected our worlds to collide. A year ago we built our forever home right on the farm and I've learned to get my feet dirty. Our favorite dates are on the tractor with a packed lunch and some 90's country on the radio. We've taught each other about life, about love, about God. We've held each other through losses, through transitions, and through celebrations. When my grandfather passed away and I was working with hospice, I realized that he and Ty share the same birthday. It sent chills through my spine but I knew then that I was being taken care of.

We chose not to see each other before the ceremony and wrote our own vows which were not shared until we were face to face on our big day. There was rain, and lots of it, forecasted for that Friday but the Heavens held off until we said our "I do's" and took all our photos. We ate, we drank, and we danced the night away in the big barn where we held our reception. Our day was perfect and served as an example of the deep love that we share.
